Go to ground means to ground a councilor for 2 weeks of doing absolutely nothing while dealing with 6 different factions. Just up the security of your councilor and unless they capture them, most missions to do stuff to them prohibitive, and capturing them is a big tell and you can examine them at that point. I wish they would make the mission times more dynamic, It’s really annoying how it’s basically a turn game until you get to space battles. There is too much focus up there IMHO.

My take is honestly just scrap protecting anything in space but Mercury, and commit to fleets to secure that big base camp - it seems like they're targeting outer solar system habs first, so you might have time to build up a solid defense fleet around Mercury from which you could start retaking other space settlements. Loving the playthrough so far, can't wait to have time to try this game myself :D

Agreed, also, thematically, it's very cool to have mercury as a sort of "Academy Space Command" with just a massive fleet and HQ around it. While this game isn't overly story based, it does seem to be very good at creating narritives, or more accurately, having the player create their own narritives.

He'll need Mars for its mining resources too, at minimum. Mercury alone doesn't have the materials to sustain very much. You can get a lot of power there and some metals, but there's no water and the deposits aren't nearly as rich. Just in case you dont know, but Aliens get worried when your MC use is too high. Like they want to make us thralls and when we suddenly start explosively industrialising they get worried and will start acively suppressing. Youre at full danger rating so its effectively total war, theyre just not here to obliterate humans because in a way they need us. So you have two options: pull back, lower your mc usage, tech up for a bit and then venture forth again , this time being prepared, or you could rush station point defense. Theyre not super expensive, you just need the tech, and 2-4 PD segments is enough to fight off the smaller alien attacks, and will help protect your space assets without using up your MC for defensive fleets.

I think that the main draw of this game isn't that it's an incredibly well made game. It is, but that's not the point. The point is that it tells an *incredibly* compelling piece of sci-fi fiction, and it effectively uses the mechanics of the game to tell it. Every single faction in this game has a story of their own, but all of them (except for the Servants and the Initiative) genuinely believe that their set of beliefs, their ideology is what's best to protect humanity. And even though every one of them broadly gets the same events, I desperately want to find out what happens in the stories of the other factions. I sympathize with the Academy the most. Though at their core their ideology revolves around the idea that they can cooperate with the aliens, *they are not naive.* They do not delude themselves into believing the aliens are here to help, as the Swrvants do. In the early game as you uncover more and more about the aliens, about how violent and destructive they are, members of the Academy are constantly pulled in opposite directions. Some, pro-surrender. Some, pro-war. The only one who truly binds the entire faction together, who keeps everyone from leaving and everything from falling apart is the faction leader. I sympathize with Academy's struggle the most. That's why I'm playing as them. I truly believe in a future where hydras and humans can co-exist. Can live in the same galaxy, in peace. *But I will not let peace come at the expense of surrender.* They saw fit to kidnap, manipulate, experiment upon and kill us by the thousands, by the *millions* before they ever saw fit to communicate, to question, to send ambassadors. We will have peace with the aliens. We will live in harmony. That day will come. But now, we must defend the independence of humanity. We will find peace in equality. Not at the end of a noose.

Potato's early game was so far different to mine. Playing as Project Exodus and aiming for just shooting off into the stars. I got Canada into a space/financial powerhouse and got USA for it's military and all other bonuses being a superpower. But the Servants got Russia, Protectorate got the EU. My whole early game was spent was just spent fighting off Aliens constantly giving me the mindset 'Well earth is screwed and I need to leave Asap but aint got the tech to survive in space, so guess I'm stuck' Feeling as if I hit a death spiral real early. Unlike Potato who expanded massively into space which is what I aimed for and now seeing what he's dealing with. I highly recommend trying to get the resistance or humanity first to build space ships to defend earth to mars. Sacrifice what you've built beyond such so your threat level decreases for meantime, focus on aiding factions who hate the aliens and just build defensive fleets yourself. I managed to get a Colony on Mars and to defend it built enough ships though always a barely close victory in my eyes at the moment. The Anti Alien factions I support have been fighting the harder battles while I slowly expand further under the radar. My death spiral after fixing the first one barely. Is I'm crushing USA's economy by fighting the Alien lovers constantly and I know my game would of been far easier if they did not get the powerhouses of the world but cannot leave Earth just yet so stuck in a awkward cycle.

Most of the time the AI end up crashing and burning by the late game in 4X games I've seen. Granted, the late game is yet to arrive, but the AI's performance looks really promising. Usually the fault of AI players are that they ignore the actual player out of fear, and let them get on their feet.

@@Dmitrisnikioff Exactly. Imagine if a system like that was applied to stellaris. You'd be giving other empires leeway to stop making their planets tech producers and they could focus on economies and a military to instead take you down, or prepare for the crises. Create your fleet by pumping out 6 spaceships at a time from Mercury, or you are going to lose really soon... Plus add concelors, and turn enemy concelors from the other factions to your side. At the moment you are losing efficiency upon their use... None the less, it is very interesting to see how you react to each events. Helps us to not make the same mistakes. Unsure if you discovered since the previous video, but planet populations are shown on the top left of their portrait!

You can easily defeat the destroyers with missiles! Their combat power is mostly from their engines. The research from those destroyed ships is the next big break - you gotta do that ASAP!

Don’t use spoils to get money, use funding. Spoils hurt your economy badly, increase inequality, and cause a host of other problems

My understanding is, based on personal experience and other videos, that a relatively "safe" upper level of MC is around 80~90. And by that I mean it might be better to have slightly less, since any alien assassination could set them off at that point. So uh, yah, I expect the aliens aren't gonna let up anytime soon.

Stop building new bases until you have ships capable of defending them.

@@kerravon4159 It is a vicious circule really, as you need bases to build ships. Maybe he is right. Looks like a hell of a hard game

F in chat for all of the colonists that got blown away this episode, manpower in space needs to be a thing. How are you getting people out to Mercury if low earth orbits are closed. Also, Perun made a guide on shipbuilding and said don't go for any armor on the sides and limited use on the nose. It's too heavy and costs too much in minerals and DV early game.
@endmostfreedom40252 жыл бұрын
I think that you could use those extra orbits around mercury as military defense stations/shipyards

I'm playing a game mimicking potatoe's strategy so far. But difference is I never attacked the alien agents yet. Didn't want to take those low rolls. As a result I have similar space infrastructure but 0 threat level from aliens.

I'm finding it useful to combine actions in the same turn. So not just crackdown one turn then purge the next but doing both in the same turn. The percentage for the purge will go up if the crackdown is successful. Same with detain and assassinate councilor.
