CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Johnny (Christopher Walken) confronts Roger Stuart (Anthony Zerbe) about the fate of his son Chris (Simon Craig).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Christopher Walken plays a schoolteacher, Johnny Smith, who awakens from a five-year coma. He discovers that he has acquired the ability to foretell a person's future simply by touching his or her hand. After seeing several examples, Smith's doctor (Herbert Lom) becomes convinced that Smith can not only predict the future, but also has the power to change it. This ability is given its severest test when Smith shakes the hand of ruthless political candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen) -- and suddenly has a flash-forward to a nuclear holocaust. The Dead Zone is not only one of the best-ever Stephen King adaptations, but also one of the most consistently successful (and least gory) efforts of director David Cronenberg.
CREDITS:
TM & © Paramount (1983)
Cast: Simon Craig, Christopher Walken, Anthony Zerbe
Director: David Cronenberg
Producers: Jeffrey Chernov, Debra Hill, Dino De Laurentiis
Screenwriters: Jeffrey Boam, Stephen King

Apparently King had suggested Bill Murray to play Johnny. Thank goodness Walken was chosen. His performance was remarkably nuanced. Expressing confusion, rage, tenderness, sadness and horror, all within a single character.

It does. However, the son stayed home while the father went to the practice with the other boys. I think 3 of them drowned. John sees the headline in the newspaper and calls the house. The father is just sitting there. The son picks up the phone. John doesn't say anything but after a few moments the son asks, "Johnny, is that you?" What a scene!!

So true. Johnny moved to the new town n Sarah n new husband came to his door w stuff about stillson n he was appearing soon. Johnny got emotional when they left n he was tutoring Chris. Chris came up to him n kind of held Chris for a second n envisioned Chris w others n hockey gear in the water.. after this n the kids playing Johnny goes to weizak n tells him this is the “dead zone” where he now can see the future stuff n change it. Then he sees n shakes hands w stillson n sees stillson as evil president launching missiles n his “destiny”.. he decides to risk his life n take out stillson. 👍👍

It came out on Blu-Ray in at least two countries that I know of and at least one (if not both) have the English language soundtrack. I'm sure you can find it online still to buy, if not, there are places that have Blu-Ray rips of it that you can grab. Why it isn't already out in the USA is a mystery though.

Perfect casting for a Tragic, and Tormented "Hero" and a great adaptation of Stephen King's Book. Yes the book filled in so many details but at the end of the day a Movie can only be 100 or so minutes. Because of this movie, I have asked myself (even in nightmares, lol) "Would I be willing to be a Hero, if it meant everyone else in the world - thought I was a nut or a bad guy"..
