The ICONIC B-52 Stratofortress take off at RIAT 2023 (VERY Loud)

Sunday, July 16 marked the last day of ‪@RIATOfficial‬ 2023.
At 1423, a much awaited took off B-52 aka BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fella), from the 93rd Bomber squadron, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, was performed.
Thrust, smoke and rumble from 8 engines of the Stratofortress is always impressive!
Followed by a heavy shower that made the show paused for a while, B52 had quite a long holding pattern, and made a flypast around 1630 and again at 1700, marked the end of RIAT2023

Oddly, still not as loud as a Vulcan!

Interesting, do you know why? (4vs8 engines, stuff like that?)

​@Tuquang the Vulcan had the Rolls Royce Olympus with giant underwing square intakes, which I believe had a lot to do with the infamous "Vulcan Howl" interestingly identical to Concorde!! Same Olympus engines same huge square intakes!!! Hmm And I can say through first-hand experience, Concorde's reputation for excessive noise is all true!! So it appears that the combination of the Rolls Olympus and the square induction rams cause the extreme noise. To be honest, I haven't actually heard the B-52 in person, but that's the way it seems to me anyway

@@Pazernator wow, thanks for that very interesting piece of information. I think B52 is loud, very loud, that my record could not capture 100% its rumbling noise. However, it’s very objective when it comes to say loud/louder. Maybe some acoustic measurement could help? I did not have chance to see Vulcan or Concorde also, but I believe they’re all magnificent machines!

@@Tuquang I can chime in here (no pun intended). There's a clear reason why the Vulcan was louder. Contrary to the B-52, the Vulcan was powered by turbojets, whereas the B-52s use turbofans. Due to their nature, turbofans somewhat "muffle" the pure jet sound, even it's a low bypass model like the B-52. A turbojet will always be louder than a turbofan (with the exception being afterburning, but that's not the case in neither B-52 or Vulcan)
