The Idea of You Review | movie vs book comparison | did I just watch a fan fiction??

In this video, I compare the movie, the Idea of You, to its original source, the book of the same name written by Robinne Lee. The story follows the unexpected love story of Solene, a 39-year old single mother, and Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of world famous pop boy band, August Moon. Is it worth a watch or a read?

I just watched the movie a couple weeks ago! I didn’t know that it was fan fiction turned published novel, but it makes sense now. I thought the movie was ok. I think the characters could have been developed better (I agree with what you said: a series would have given them more time to explore the depths of their relationship). The movie is telling us that she’s “inclusive” without ever really showing us what she does besides stand around at her gallery and be a mom (albeit not the best mom). Solene also says Hayes is a “feminist” expecting the audience to find him more mature or acceptable. When movies/shows do that, they do the audience a disservice by saying it instead of showing it. Idk I just wanted more to root for and I didn’t get that. I love Anne Hathaway but I think this movie was a miss for me. Yay movie reviews! lol

Such an insightful comment @miriam7741 and totally agree with you ☺️ I think Anne Hathaway has a super strong fan base so anything she does will draw the numbers but I don't think the film had as strong of an impact as it could have. Wasn't time wasted per se but I can see how it wouldn't be a "watch more than once" type of film.
