I don't have either the Avidyne or Garmin GPS systems. But, I am considering upgrading to one. I recently priced a GTN 750xi for just under $23K installed. A 650xi for about $16K. The Avidyne IFD550 is about $20K BEFORE installation! So, if you have a 430 or 530, upgrading to Avidyne is much cheaper because you can just slide it in. However, if it's an original installation, it would be a few thousand more. Also, I keep finding that if I upgrade one thing, I should upgrade another! And one of the stumbling blocks for me is my old Century IIIB autopilot. If I want to get rid of the vacuum system, I need to buy a new autopilot! I'm curious how you like the Tru Trac, and what the install on that cost?
@FlyingDirty2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was just looking at that and, as much as I love the Avidyne, it has gotten expensive. Even more so that they no longer take 530/430 trade ins. Not to mention, almost every product is now out of stock...Yiiiiikes!

@@ronaldvanengen1887 There is one thing about STEC that I don't like: If you set the climb speed to a value too high for the power setting, it will completely disconnect and leave you in a trim up roll. If you're not careful in IMC, this could really be disorienting. It would be better if it held the lateral direction and just mushed down gradually.

How can you guys afford these insane prices and installation costs to upgrade to these glass cockpit and avionics? Sadly I 😮still fly on steam gauges I can’t justify mortgaging my house or going into debt. I love the technology but its stratospheric cost of admission is too high. Thank god for ForeFlight and my iPad. Remember there’s still the costs of owning and maintaining your airplane, fuel, repairs, annuals, oil, insurance, hangar, overhauls, etc. on top of that most of us have a life outside of flying which also comes with its own expenses.
@FlyingDirty9 ай бұрын
Good morning 😃 There’s multiple answers to your question. First, I like to learn! But to learn I have to become the listener. When I ask someone a question then the last thing I want to do is also answer based on my own understanding or lack there of. Example; you ask “how can you guys AFFORD” then assume it’s unaffordable based on your own personal opinion. Affordability, is subjective and variable based on personal experience. I can now best answer you by telling you that I learn and listen a lot. I try my best not to form ideals or self crippling assumptions. Next, I always have goals! If I want something done I plan and execute. Next, debt is also subjective, I don’t want debt so I personally have none! Next, money is worthless! So learn to play life like Monopoly. But first, get out of debt! The quickest way to lose in Monopoly is owing and not owning. Most importantly for me is be wise and just and always of good cheer 😀 Life is all about having to live with the choices you make so make every choice work on your progress. Before you know it, people will be asking you this same exact question 😀
@ozelot2509 ай бұрын
@@FlyingDirtyThank you-that’s a very thoughtful answer. I was merely venting and my question was more rhetorical in nature. Of course I am speaking from my own perspective, finances, and experiences. I understand that that people’s budgets, experiences, and financial resources vary significantly. Clearly there is a market for these very expensive avionics and products. I feel very privileged that I am a private pilot and that I own my own airplane. I try and share the gift of flying with as many people who have never experienced flying in a small personal airplane as I can.
@FlyingDirty9 ай бұрын
@@ozelot250 It is my pleasure! My greatest joy is helping others. I also noticed that you touched on the importance of having worthwhile goals in life. Like you, I dreamed of becoming a pilot and owning an airplane since I was very young. And you achieved it! Keep piling on goals along with a little patience and things always come together. But to your previous point, the worst thing anyone can do is be in debt. Debt is a disaster!

Dogmatic religions and state of being is dangerous, results in hate, intolerance, such as your example.
