After contributing a fair amount of money, one feels invested in this project, even if one lives far from St. Mary's. Hopefully the Immaculata can become not just a phenomenon particular to Kansas, but to the United States, as the Archbishop intended. St-Nicolas-du Chardonnet in Paris plays such a role in France. All of its liturgies are online.

Traditional altars are fixed on the wall. Attached to the wall, so that they are immovable unlike the altar table.

Although I am an TLM adherent. We must work to bring the SSPX into full communion with the universal church, but I think it will certainly not happen with the present Pope.

at first i was also questioning it. but if you look closely, it is not a table. it is an altar. the tabernacle is placed in a manner that no priest can consecrate facing the people.

Much of the early church had free standing altars, it allows for a greater utilization of space and allows for more wall art. When you have a large building like this it’s just practical. The good news is, you can use a free standing altar ad orientem just like the ancient church did 😃

It's a genuine altar but it's not attached to the wall. I found that curious also. Perhaps you should contact Fr. Rutledge about that fact.

Father explained it previously. 1. It's beautiful 2. It is architecturally fitting, given the style and design of the Sanctuary art 3. It enables greater solemnity a full incensation of the entire Altar and 4. No it's not "Novus Ordo": it would be impossible to do a "versus populum" Mass from this Altar.
