There was a time in the mid 2000s where I spent a few months bedridden and loaded on pain meds. One of my cousins decided to keep me company in the evenings and on weekends. We played a lot of xbox360 and she kept coming up with creative ways to keep me engaged. One of her most amazing ideas was when she brought a heat lamp, coconut suntan lotion, a picnic cloth and a cooler with cold sodas and sandwiches and we has a beach "day" in Just Cause. We turned the console on, took the player character to one of the most beautiful beach spots in the game and proceeded to put on coconut suntan lotion on top of the picnic cloth spread on the bed while playing a beach music playlist from various video games she had burned to cd. Thank god she didn't bring a bag of sand. :D I got to return the favor during her difficult first pregnancy (though I think her husband was a bit weirded out, but hey my cousin, her twin brother and I are the same age and we grew up together in the same household so we're more like siblings). This time we used her favorite beach in WoW: Booty Bay.

I've never played it but it's in my backlog and I love Chrono Trigger (FF6 gets all the praise on the SNES but I didn't think it was nearly as good), one of maybe max 10 RPGs I've ever finished (not my genre), but not a big fan of RPGs. I figure you're biased then but... Is it on the level of Chrono Trigger?
@LucienVonKreuz2 ай бұрын
@@SicketMog If it's on the level of Chrono Trigger depends entirely on the person, to me, I'll tell you is better than Chrono Trigger, for most people, Chrono Cross was a "disappointment" or a "bad sequel". What I can tell you is that this divisive opinion comes from the fact that Chrono Cross is a way different game, the setting is more tropical, the sountrack is made by the same person, Yasunori Mitsuda, the character design is different, dropping the Toriyama style for a new one, the combat system is different (and unique), leveling system is different, you don't play as Lucca, Crono, Frog, Marle or any of the Chrono Trigger characters, but the story is a sequel so they're mentioned. In the end, you'll have to try it and see if you like it. PS: You do have one character from Chrono Trigger but the story content about it was cut due to time.

Hard same with the beach vibes being my favorite. I had the same exact experience with Wave Race 64, though I think what initially spurred my love for tropical beach vibes was Echo the Dolphin. I could spend hours in the beach cove starter zone (which yeah, it was only in the water but the vibes were still there). A few other great contenders for me were Balamb and Fisherman's Horizon in FF8. I'm so happy someone mentioned Xtreme Beach Volleyball! I absolutely loved this game purely for the beach vibes and spent all summer playing it!

@@SanguineUltima You are absolutely correct, to each their own because I’d never come up with such a cringe and quite frankly schizophrenic comparison. Square ripping off their own game? I totally get what you mean. I was fascinated by beaches in games when I was younger too. Super Mario Sunshine made a huge impression on me as a kid. I remember vividly how jaw dropping the water looked and the coral reef outside Gelato Beach. Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts also bring back a ton of memories for me. I remember my mom loved FFX. She used to have a wallpaper on her old Windows 2000 PC with Tidus looking up at the sky, besaid island in the background. Zelda Wind Waker another one you mentioned, and there was this beautiful area in Star Fox Adventures too, but I can't recall the name. The graphics on the fur and water amazed me back then. I loved just swimming around and interacting with the water in games. Just tropical settings in general with clean light blue water, probably my favourite setting in games. I didn't play Chrono Cross until a few years ago so while I never grew up with that game I found a deep appreciation for it as an adult.

Karu Crags, Doppelganger, The Past, Lonely Coast, Word, The Amokuali, Gemini's Palace, The Troupe Rests, The Town, Nature Whispers (a very slow version of the main leitmotif in The Boy Calls and To The End), Forests of Wonder, Salt Marshes, Zonectic Mountains and Sleepwalking are all among the more atmospheric tracks in the game. One of my favorite Beach areas in RPG’s is one from Mario & Luigi Bowser’s inside story, “Plack beach.” It’s literally a beach where you see disgusting giant teeth that are riddled with cavities….like wtf lol, I would NOT want to dip my toes in this cavity invested beach but gosh dang is the music for this area in the game soothing. There’s also a couple of beach areas in Mario & Luigi: Dream team. Since the game takes place an island. “Sunny hirune beach,” has such a great summer-y vibe to it with the music accompanying it too. Then there’s “wakeport” area in that game, man…Yoko shimomura’s is truly something to love in gaming music.

Various of the backgrounds you added behind the game footages were really pretty. There really are some *very* deep cuts in here with stuff like Rocket: Robot on Wheels and Stone Protectors. Was expecting things like Starshot: Space Circus Fever and perhaps even Glover to pop up too. And some parts of Rayman 2 and 3, like the Sanctuary of Water & Ice and the leadup, fight and aftermath with Celoché/the Mecha-Crab. Are you by any chance familiar with the likes of Zeno Clash, its prequel Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Sudeki and Freddi Fish? All of those have interesting and great atmospheres to them and their beach areas. For Zeno Clash, from what i remember, the coast music is rather mysterious and a bit foreboding. For the Lonely Coast in Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, it's... bittersweet. There is longing, emptiness. It's warm, yet the wind brings a force and coldness that is felt under your skin. Like the autumn afternoon of a day where you are not necessarily in a bad position in life, but... there have been bad things. There is more that you could have done. It could have been better. You feel an emptiness that could have been filled, or a missing piece that would have still been here if things were different. Even still... there is wonder where you are at now. Meanwhile the music that plays in the conversation with a whale-like creature called Word is a lot nicer. Almost alien and inspiring. Parts of it remind me of Ancient Chinese Secrets from Beyond Good and Evil. BG&E may not really have beach sections as such, but the environment is nonethelessvery nice and pretty, close to the ocean with life and color all around you, even amidst the regular attacks from outside. Sudeki's New Brightwater feels like summer near flourishing nature and a calming sea. And Freddi Fish is just fantastic. Love the handpans/steel drums.

Too many to name, but you got a lot of them. I still think Winter stages have the potential to be cozier though. Icicle Inn is cozier than Costa Del Sol and I will die on that hill

The beach level was always the “fun” one. I was always so excited when Koopa Troopa Beach would pop up in MK64.

Oh yeah so many good memories with this level and game. When we were younger we played a lot of MK64 with our cousins when we visited them in Colorado!

trails in the sky has a nice big beach where you do a lot of quests. and most Ys games start in a beach

Oh yeah I do remember that beach early on in trails in the sky, that is a cool one. With Ys as well Falcom does like their beaches

You should definitely play Super Mario Sunshine! It just has the best tropical settings in video games.

I really like the harvest moon friends of mineral town beach on the gba its a nice spot where you can play catch with your dog, fish, listen to the waves and once a year there is a beach day event and whole town comes down to celebrate.

It might not be everyone's favorite part of the game, but Guarma in Red Dead Redemption 2 is gorgeous! I rushed through it the first time, but took my time on a more recent playthrough. What about the cooler, more northern climate beaches? Did Valkyrie Profile have them? I feel like they did. I always enjoy your videos. Great job!

I was just waking up as this video was playing so maybe i missed it but i really love the little beach section in FF13. The game needed a lot more moments like that though.
