@@BoatFarts It's unlikely that he doesn't know it. Most guys learn enough and can do normal stuff. They just prefer the safety of a translator when dealing with press. Ichiro is a classic example of this. The reason is confidence. It would really really suck to say something wrong and have that shit go worldwide.

In the middle of the 2002 season, the Montreal Expos traded three top prospects to get Colon for the pennant drive. All three prospects (Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Grady SIzemore) eventually became All-Stars. Lee and Sizemore are retired, and Phillips will soon follow. The last active player from that deal.....is Bartolo Colon.

The thing I love about him is that you can see that HE loves playing the game. In our heart of hearts, we are all still the kids who loved playing ball. Colon has stayed that way - he’s a great athlete, sure, but it’s still a GAME for him, not a JOB. That is just great and his joy at playing is infectious.

He may be active, but I doubt any MLB team will pick him up anymore at his age; he just doesn't put up the big league pitching numbers anymore. Last I heard he is still playing down in the Mexican Leagues though.

everyone at petco park were on their feet applauding bartolo for his majestic home run. it was like seeing a solar eclipse for the first time. he never played for san diego and there they are, cheering him on. clapping, bowing down, screaming, waving cardboard cutouts of his head. who else is so universally loved that he can get this kind of reception anywhere he goes? i dont know about the hall of fame, but his longevity and how much he is adored all around baseball should mean something when considering a vote for him. thanks for the memories bartolo! - met fan

If he even plays--nobody wants a 45 year old player but I tolerate Colon. Don't like him but I don't hate him. He's kind of like Adrian Beltre or Andrew McCutchen. Hell Derek Jeter fits into that category of respect. I may be a Cubs fan at heart but I hold a lot of respect for ball players from any of the MLB teams (except Carlos Gomez, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado)

My son and I were watching the game where Bartolo hit his one and only career home run. We had visible cartoon exclamation points shooting out of our heads! Seeing it again still makes me smile, partly because of the delight in Gary Cohen's call. Bartolo joins the ranks of baseball's iconic, slightly oddball players, along with Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, and Dizzy Dean.
