I have never played this game before, but i did see the pictures of this game for the Amiga from the old finnish 🇫🇮 computer magazines back in the early 1990's. THE IMMORTAL looks so brilliant, i always wanted to give a try for it someday. Even the animation is absolutely magnificent. And as i hear the music 🎵🎶 in this Amiga game, i have noticed, that it is from Will Harvey, the creator of ZANY GOLF. Even the scrolling playability reminds me of HEIMDALL from Core Design. Gotta give a big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. Thank you 😺👍🕹️.

I appreciate how you synced your 'give it a whirl' with the whirlpool in the game. Very cheeky. Love the animation of the sprites! My fave moment was when the wizard climbed down the ladder, he first put his staff on the floor, climbed down, and then picked up his staff again before climbing down. The design of the characters is impressive too. That was a legit creepy spider. Not very fond of those. I may actually boot this up myself as I've never played it. Cheers mate.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
I didn't think anyone would notice that!! Give it a whirl indeed - get this one fired up on your Amiga emulator or, if you want the added 'gore' then maybe check it out on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis too... different fighting mechanics, but still great fun 😇🕹️👌

I'm not into RPGs, but I liked the look of this game and tried to play it. I even had a copy of the manual, however I could never get very far. I could never swing out of the pit traps, and I never got the hang of fighting. As I recall, the manual says to block, wait for the NPC to attack, then counter attack. What usually happened, was that I would block, the NPC would attack, I'd go to counter attack, and the NPC would attack again and hit me, causing me to lose a good chunk of health in each fight. After 2-3 of these type encounters, I'd be dead.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
The fights took me a long while to practive the rhythm, but you can get it perfect with perseverance. As for those traps, dont worry... you're not alone there. Every time I would fall in and could never get out... the staff would snap and I'd be gonners. There much be a knack to it though 😇🕹️👌
@bulkvanderhuge90063 ай бұрын
The problem was, with games like this, is you also had to take into account the LAG by the Computer trying to keep up with the action, so Blocking etc always felt unnatural because you had to react SOONER than you normally would have to, in order to compensate.

I played this one on the Genesis so much that I was able to beat it consistently, and it's as hard as all hell. Great game, but that difficulty can be really off putting.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
The fighting moves were a case of moving left and right until the enemies ran out of stamina and then just let loose... rinse & repeat. However, those darned traps got me pretty much every time! 😇🕹️👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer This was on a real Amiga back in the day with no save states, but I guess I was saved by the level code continues. 😊 But I remember having to do the barrel part a lot, and lots of trial and error trying to evade the different types of attack in the end with the dragon and Mordamir.

AW YEAH! this game may not have aged as well as some, but it truely was a fantastic blend of the old-school isometrics like Fairlight and Wizardry (not the RPG series Wizardry) and newer (in perspective) more modern isometrics like Diablo. It was absolutely one of my favourite Amiga games, but hard as nails and I never did win it. Maybe if I had a trainer version I would have, but some of the puzzles were dastardly. For an Amiga and Genesis/Megadrive isometric action/RPG it's hard to beat The Immortal. It maybe falls short of the big thumbs up, but great anyway. Now I am not sure if Faery Tale Adventure is in your playlist Cheeky, but if not THAT one is absolutely worth the thumb and I hope you cover it if you haven't!

I had The Faery Tale Adventure for my Sega back in the day, never had it on the Amiga. one of the weird, call it quirks, from c64 to amiga 500(and others), came that space bar was a common second button, while c64 was on the ground so you could press it with your feet, a500 seemed to be more on desk, either weird sitting position or just funny way to hold controller (take something like turrican 2)
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
That is where the consoles always excelled... especially with the NES - the ability to have 2 x button joypads! Man, if the C64 or Amiga allowed multiple inputs, their games would have been even more legendary! Alas... the 'grenade boy' was one of my earlier roles in gaming, hitting the space bar for my brother when playing games such as 'Commando'. So we made do with what we had at the time I guess 😇🕹️👌

I bought this one (Amiga version, NTSC) back in the day. But I couldn't get very far, because I just never got the hang of hand-to-hand combat. I might have been able to handle this game better if it were turn based rather than action based. The frame rate was sluggish enough that it could almost be turn based!
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
The combat aspect is a little fiddly alright, takes some practice to get the timings right with dodging and attacking and even then, the enemies sometimes hit you in the process 😇🕹👌

It was kinda like precursor of Diablo and other isometric titles appearing in the 1990s . Graphic was very nice, but it did not have RPG elements , i.e. you could not upgrade your player, just get better weapons. Also, save system was simplistic, so it could work on consoles (you basically get a code for a level). Thus game was a bit repetitive, i.e. you would need to play certain levels over and over. Overall, this was a bad decision, as making it to be a true RPG would certainly increase quality. As it stands, nice graphics but overall mediocre title.
@CheekyCommodoreGamer3 ай бұрын
I guess it certainly won't be everyones cup of tea - like you say, a bit of an RPG element would have been great but there was so many traps in the game, the instant kill thing would have been pointless 😇🕹️👌
