Thanks Sorin! By watching this video, I learned there are some laptops that have charger detection circuit on charging port. Without shorting the detection pin to ground, they don't charge the battery. I'll keep that in my mind for future repairs.

I followed the troubleshoot with great interest. It so was to my workbench, a sequencer (unit) power fault. In the end, the unit went to dust bin, as a curious fault. Very much a parallel, power on fault in the end where I failed. So at test, I could learn about the 2nd ground as sense. And the care needed to fully test mosfet. 1, 2 or more in design. While a difference in power supply value, the needed approach to troubleshoot important and vital. While I at my bench repair for simple enjoyment of task....not paid..I very much like the repair task, you see. And will try that venture to any model, any laptop or phone. So it is I watch with care the methods used. I gain from where you draw the schematic and I quite thank you for taking the time to teach. I really enjoy all of the posts....and I bid you fair winds, a fair season. Regards. McGary

Pin 11 of the bq chip drives the mosfet between the batt plus and the main 19v pwr sply: the bq drives that mosfet when there is no adapter detect ACDET pin 6 but there is sufficient voltage provided by the batt on the SRN pin 12. Datasheet states for pin 12: "SRN pin is for battery voltage sensing as well."

Noroc Sorin !

Until now I haven't noticed that this charging port has such a stupid feature. I wouldn't have noticed it with this repair either. You can buy a large set of adapters for 10-20€ and always go to work with a suitable adapter. It is no point to spare on this investment if you work with it every day.

I think it’s better to ground that pin by jumper wire to terminate the problem of totally fit adapter
@SerenoOunce3 жыл бұрын
The sense pin most likely is to prevent arcing within the DC jack. Particularly on a laptop like this with dedicated GPU which draws more current. Also a possibility doing a jumper bypass of the sense pin may prevent the laptop from switching to battery power. May make diags more annoying but it does serve a legitimate purpose.
@markkay8117 Жыл бұрын
This vid is old now, but to my knowledge this extra pin on DC jack is Power supply ID pin. it should not be shorted to the ground. There is a separate ID chip inside the genuine power supply, telling the motherboard which charger is connected.

In manufacturing they look for every cent, because 10c on 1,000,000 products is $100,000. Even when you sign a contract with a company to supply parts, you have to reduce the price 3% per year because they expect that making more items will make it cheaper, ie, the manufacturing setup fee gets paid at the start so it should get cheaper.

what do you use to bring heat down?
@z0525524049 Жыл бұрын
"If it works don't try to fix it" The reason for having the control of inserting the plug all the way in is to ensure that there is no loose contact that will generate heat and cause a fire to break out of the computer.

Very good video we learn to much from you, i advice you to get standard charger that come with all pc brands connectors, and cut that cable and link it directlly to your power supply that you can monitor amps. Second, i advice you to add cable usb hdmi usb c usb b to negative psu and nevative multi metter so you dont need to use the negative probe that didconnect all time, and u can use negative clamp for open pcv without usb or hdmi ... So any time you wanna use negative just plug usb or hdmi cable to provide negative connection. Ps i need your help with dump bios for asus gl504gm with the serial number of that dump, i need to edit dump and look for serial number you provide and put mine inside Thanks and keep going have good day Peace

Always.. Always use the same connector to plug to board (never use customer adapter) to test at the beginning , never use "touching" probe to test. If you have done this as an SOP, you can avoid this problem.
