When you get that high on the neck, which is technically often neck, the slightest movement can be several notes. The fact that he’s able to be so precise that high on the strings is very impressive

@@morgellon7877 to an extent he probably used them for reference, but it's definitely done mostly by ear. You can hear him make tiny corrections to the pitch on every note, which are impossible to do based on vision because of the insane precision needed. It's kind of like playing the violin

Duane Allman used to do something similar during certain songs. Most famously on the live recording of Mountain Jam he used this technique to replicate the sounds of bird songs

JB is doing it just muting on his left hand. Steve Morse and Phil Keaggy do that while fretting chords with their left hand which gives an autoharp effect.

The slide is nothing but a fret plus he has a sustained module connected to the guitar. I can easily do that with my Fernandez sustained pickups.

Jeff didn't use sustainers on his strats. Here, it's just the bridge pickup, and he controls everything else with the volume and tone knobs.
