Honestly I love this right now. The irony of SMU having success with the way college landscape has changed due to the transfer portal and NIL. Always been a fan of their jerseys when they made the change to their current uniforms back around 2009.

SMU was wild west college football before college football became the wild west. It is no surprise they are popping like they are now. Gotta give them credit for doing whatever they had to do to get into a power conference. Aggression maneuver is often the right call.
@metroidnerd90012 ай бұрын
One of my favorite details about this current SMU team is that so many of their star players, especially their quarterbacks, are from Dallas. Jennings is from Oak Cliff, Stone went to Parish Episcopal, and third-string Keldric Luster is from McKinney. Sure, they’ve made plenty of good use of the transfer portal, but having so many Dallas-born stars makes the team feel authentic in addition to being good.
@brendynporter10132 ай бұрын
And that's going to continue to be a thing! So many athletes come from the metroplex and their only option was TCU. Now with SMU doing what they've done, so many athletes are going to want to come to SMU from the area. In about 2 or 3 years they'll dang near have a all metroplex team and I'm ok with that! We have the best talent, anyways! 🐎

I don’t understand why SMU has the reputation of “buying” their way into things. Other programs spend way more money, and SMU clearly has the skill and robustness in their program to earn a spot in a Power 4 conference.
@atbsigmaАй бұрын
SMU has that stigma of being ‘cheaters’… and is slowly getting themselves away from that. They are doing what all the other power schools do, and that rich Texas high school pool like Duncanville gives them plenty of in state options to put on the NIL payroll. The good news is, unlike my Alma mater (Michigan), I don’t see a huge stigma being trumpeted by the internet or mainstream sports media. Similar to Michigan’s first foray into the CFP, it was more of a ‘welcome back’ followed by a drubbing at the hands of an established power 4 school.
@HonestUAWElectrician20 күн бұрын
It's funny isn't it??? Especially when we all know every program for decades has done it. SMU is always gonna get some side eye because they got caught when it wasn't legal.

@ the basketball version of it is what happened to the Fab 5 at Michigan. Wasn’t the death penalty (Michigan has appeared in a couple finals since) but what they stripped down from the rafters is now legal.

The only thing holding SMU back the last 10-15 years was not joining a major conference. So essentially, politics. They have a great location, they are RICH, they just needed to have a reason for kids to commit

They should at least have one of the 12 spots for the playoffs, but ncaa will do everything to try to keep them out , problem is smu is going to continue to play and win, so it's going to force them to put them in, and you know it's driving them nuts that even after how bad the ncaa screwed them with the death penalty, this new landscape is going to allow smu to give them the finger as they become dominant and make pony excess look like child's play with the money they can throw around now

It’s not all that hard to figure out why the mustangs are successful in the acc. First of all it’s the acc that conference is garbage. Secondly SMU made a great hire for their head coach in Rhett lashlee. Now the question becomes can they hold onto him should one the bigger jobs open up.
