Once again I stumble across ANOTHER video that makes my workflow easier. Kenny deserves a Grammy.

Likewise! I love Reaper, but I still use Logic for MIDI, and not knowing about this was a big reason why.

The amount of painstaking hours this man has saved me is insane. It shouldn’t have taken me weeks to figure out how to do this and it definitely would’ve if this guy didn’t exist.

When i hover over a midi note mine doesn't turn into a pointer like yours. Instead mine stays in write/draw mode & draws new midi instead of moving it. Any idea how to turn that off?

@DopamineOverload4 жыл бұрын
@@deanmccormick7347 Right-click + drag, is usual at least for Windows users. Mac users need to use a 2-button mouse or use the CTRL key modifier in the Preferences. Hope that helps

I'd like to add something (the only way I used the inline midi editor 'til now) : you can reverse midi notes in the inline midi editor, which you can't in the piano roll. Really usefull to me :) Thanks for your tutos Kenny !

question Kenny - I saw a video with a guy showing how to change the groove in Reaper, but he was doing it with audio. do you have a video showing Groove Settings in the MIDI Editor?

This is great! How do we set the defaults for the inline editor? (zoom level, show only used notes, etc)?? I find the defaults very unusable, and it is not realistic to click those little buttons every time I want to use the inline editor

I would like to record Yamaha Music Workstation (PSR... something) playing drums from their Styles into a MIDI track, at the same time controlling the Style parts from Reaper (switching Styles, fill-ins...). I have created two tracks: one for recording drums (MIDI input from Workstation) and second one for sending Control Messages to Workstation (MIDI input with Hardware Output). So, I would like my Yamaha Music Workstation to play its "Styles" controlled by MIDI item in Reaper. I know how to place CC events/messages in midi editor, and so I can change "Styles" and their "Parts" like variations, fill-ins, intros, breaks and so on, when I first had started playing a Style in the Yamaha Workstation by pressing Start button on Yamaha. One thing I don't know is how to Start/Stop Yamaha playing from my Reaper MIDI item. Many documentations say about MIDI Realtime Messages: Start (FA) and Stop (FC). But these 0xFA, 0xFC values cannot be put into any of event editing controls (because they exceed 127 (7F)). Or they can automatically be sent to the device (Yamaha Workstation in my case) without explicitly being put in by user in any Reaper items (and that's why cannot)... but how? I have set hardware output in routing of the track to Yamaha Workstation and enabled the Output device with MIDI clock on in Reaper, as well Yamaha's clock is set to MIDI (instead of INTERNAL). I hope its possible to do as I think... please for any help:) EDIT: I am a little step further now, my clock settings in Yamaha device should be to "MIDI/USB1". So when I play the Reaper project from the beginning, Yamaha start also playing. But if I start it at any other measure, Yamaha does not. I would like to arrange my CC messages for Yamaha on the MIDI item, but I have to start playing from the beginning every time I want to hear the result.

Great video. Wish the inline editor showed the note names if you have them loaded.

Quick question Kenny-- is there any way at all to be able to save a project or project template that has the inline editor enabled on midi items... to KEEP the inline midi editor showing, upon opening? Even if the items are empty? Would be great for a thing for my students. Thanks!

This seems especially useful when you have one instance per drum sound. I'm curious though why it's better to have arrows than boxes for drums?
@tykeeblues20764 жыл бұрын
I think its because drums sounds dont need to be stretched. The rectangles are made to stretch or collapse a note. This is just my idea.
