I have a light bulb that was made in Fort Wayne,Indiana in 1912. It was a going away gift to my neighbor when she left the Fort Wayne light works in 1912. It has a filiment that when it is moved or shaken,lightly of course,moves ,or shakes or wiggles. I 'am thinking of donating it to the Fort Wayne historical society but don't really want to give it up. It is one-hundred three years old as of this past August of 2015.

@CampKohler We have an autotransformer and gradually raise the bulbs to level of illumination but much less than rated voltage, this way the antique bulbs can last a very long time on display.

I like the Edison style incandescent light bulbs in different colors besides clear. They are available in blue, green, red, yellow, and even orange. It is good for Christmas lights or special occasions. Too bad they don't have it at Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum for display.

Apparently a few years back around when they were banning Incandescents, MIT were trying to make a more efficient Incandescent. I've seen the article but I don't know if they are still working on it. Maybe you know more about it?

Home depot and Lowes have a couple different vintage light bulbs now, one with a square filament and another with long strands wound vertically. Check them out there in the lighting section,they're in yellowish blister packs.

I have to say that My all time favorite incandescent bulb is the cage filament bulb at 1:47. I have them from 10 watt to a whopping 1000 watt. The 60 - 300 watts are My favorites. I also love the carbon bulbs. After that CLEAR Mogul based Mercury Vapor bulbs used in street lighting (the early ones). Bulbs are beautiful indeed!

No actually most LED bulbs available for purchase closely match the warmth of an incandescent bulb. LED bulbs are vastly superior to incandescent bulbs.

I was at museum with an antique light bulb collection and I saw a very unusual one. It had two probes extending into the center of the bulb with rounded caps. Instead of a filament wire, it had a fine cloud of wire that reminded me of steel wool. Any thoughts at to what it was?

LED"s put out a frequency RF signal. May not be good for brain. Had to move one away from indoor TV antenna, was knocking signal out.

I have one theory as to why the incandescent light bulb is being phased out and it has to do with the " armaments" or defence industry . The powers that be have detemined that DU or depleted uranium munitions ,though effective , have very toxic side effects when used to both sides ? And so for their armor piercing shells and what not they are looking to replace the DU stuff with tungsten cored shot which is what they used previous to the invention of DU munitions .So what to do with the DU ? Could DU be made " ductile" like tungsten and could it be made into a resistive filament and placed within a vacuum or gas filled bulb as described in the video ? And if so of what use might it be ? One thought was for some kind of "ion propulsion" type device for spacecraft or perhaps as a germicide type light for killing bacteria in hospitals etc ?

@@stoopidhaters They do. Only incandescent LIGHT bulbs are being phased out as getting light through incandescence is very inefficient. Incandescent heaters are very efficient and are not being phased out.

yeah, if you stick a 3v LED straight into a wall socket, it lasts lest long than incandescent. Otherwise? LED always lasts longer.
