I consider the cel with ink and paint technique to be among the greatest in the history of animation and motion pictures.

Fun Fact: Fine Arts Films, the studio that animated _Shinbone Alley,_ also animated the opening title sequences for _Grease_ (1978).

I love how optimistic they were about cel animation

But seeing how labor intensive it is, I don't blame animators from moving away from it.

@@harizotoh7 M O N E Y. If animators got paid, if studios got paid, if modern business wasn't about MAXIMISING profit, then we would still have cel animation. Digipaint is just so much cheaper and requires less time sensitive materials. No celluloids, no vinyl paint that ruins brushes, no brushes to be ruined. No Xerox machines with uncertain line quality reproduction onto the cels. Animation still is a massive chore and incredibly tedious. That doesn't change.

@@harizotoh7I don’t think animators moved away, they love it. It’s the studios that pay their salary that moved away. I see lots of oldies proudly sharing their traditional animations :)

Loved seeing footage of the voice actors in action.

It's so nice to see how old cel animation was handled and made. It's so fascinating to see how the cells actually came to be, and how the copying actually worked.

Interesting to see how many women were involved in the production, from voice actors, to background artists.

Too bad their isn't a 4K version of Shinbone Alley out there in the wild. The best we can get is a 480p version or a longer cut version in 240p on YT. I had a VHS copy a long time ago, but it got ate up by a VCR.

Did John Carradine himself narrate this documentary? He was one of the voices in the film and I recognized his face in the recording session scenes.

I wonder if the people responsible for the official disk release (don't know if there ever was a Bluray) are regretting not having this on.

I don't care what people say us "weridos" liking anthro furries, I do agree with you their, I think Methitabel is fine and the most attractive character in animation despite her anger issues she does have a caring heart.
