I grew up watching the Lou Ferrigno Incredible Hulk tv show, but had also noticed in the past that the pizza shop owner Paul Soles did the voice for various animated super hero tv shows from the 60's forward, like Spider Man / Peter Parker and Dr. Bruce Banner of The Hulk, among others. I first saw that actor Paul Soles when he was also working with Edward Norton in the Robert De Niro movie The Score (2001), which people should check out sometime if they haven't already seen it. I kind of consider it the unofficial prequel to the Italian Job (2003).

My favorite thing about Hulk is that his strength is virtually limitless because his strength increases the more angry he becomes. But the third transformation in this movie is amazing. I love how we actually see his bones and muscles stretch and his skin turn green as it progresses. A little side note for future movies regarding Hulk: If Bruce becomes Hulk voluntarily, he's more in control over himself. But if it happens when he gets overstimulated, like from becoming angry....Hulk becomes a living bulldozer.
@danieldickson859111 ай бұрын
The Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have never adopted the "madder=stronger" gimmick from the comics. Hulk's strength stays constant. Mind you, in Ang Lee's Hulk movie he made it "madder=bigger," which of course also made Hulk stronger. Probably because it's easier for movie audiences to recognize.

You mentioned Lou Ferrigno but not that he played the Hulk in his most popular iteration up until 2008, in the TV series of The Incredible Hulk. There are a number of references to that series in the film. For instance, when he says, 'Don't make me hungry, you won't like me when I'm hungry,' is a reference to, 'Don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry,' spoken by David Banner (changed from Bruce because a studio executive thought the name Bruce sounded 'gay') during the opening credit sequence of every episode. There are also sections of the music which are basically the theme of the TV series. Strictly speaking, The Incredible Hulk was a sequel to Hulk (2003). A film so hated most Marvel fans prefer not to acknowledge its existence. This film picks up where Hulk ended, references events in that film, etcetera. If you knew nothing about the Hulk (which, correct me if I'm wrong, seems to be where you were at while watching this) I wouldn't be surprised if you were somewhat confused at the start about what the hell was going on. It doesn't strictly follow Hulk (2003) - for instance there is no mention of Banner's father - the opening credit sequence was more a hybrid between the best parts of Hulk (2003) and The Incredible Hulk (1977-1982). To this day, as far as I'm concerned, Ed Norton played the best version of Banner we've seen on the big screen for sure. (dodging all the tomatoes and eggs thrown by Marvel fans) It's a shame this was his only Hulk film. They didn't take him forward into the MCU proper because he demanded too much creative control (which, let's face it, means any creative control). Oh and Robert Wadlow grew to 8 foot 11.1 inches before his death, not 8 foot 11 inches. 🤣 I'd have so corrected you (sincerely) on that point when I was a kid. How dare you miss a tenth of an inch! Anyway Whimsory, always a pleasure. Nice to watch reactions from someone who really goes into detail in their analysis.

No, this is a reboot vs 2003, not a continuation -- but a large enough portion of the audience was familiar with that and with the TV show (through constant reruns) that rehashing the full backstory in all its gory detail was unnecessary. They were able to show most of it in the opening credits and then later highlight the more important bits in dialog.

Whimsory, a suggestion for you: It has been a while since you did the first MCU film, and now you've done the 2nd one. It feels like you're going to be at this for a long, long time. Several years. Maybe an approach might be to knock out a "phase" at a time. The main story for the MCU ("Iron Man" to "Endgame") is broken up into 3 phases. You could maybe watch phase one in a relatively short period of time (4 more movies), and then take a month or two off or whatever, before hitting phase two. That might help you keep track of the plot a little better. Also, as for credit scenes, keep in mind that some movies as we go along may have multiple scenes in the end credits. I think one of them has 4. Anyway, have a good one!

9:47 OG Hulk, Lou Ferrigno. Keep up the good work. Remember all of the post credits scenes in the MCU film. The drink the general is drinking in the end is called an Incredible Hulk: Hypnotiq and Hennessy. Can’t wait until you reach my favorite MCU film: Captain America: The First Avenger.

For an especially good Edward Norton film, I recommend his on-screen debut: Primal Fear (1996).

Don't make me hungry, was a joke reference to the 1970's Hulk TV show. The line was originally Don't make me angry, you would not like me when I'm angry.

1. Bruce Banner was abused by his Father, so he had to suppress parts of his personality / emotions. Hulk is his suppressed parts as a separate personality. 2. "Mr. Blue" after he gets that radiation exposer to his brain becomes a character called "The Leader". One of the smartest villains in Marvel comics. 3. "Abomination" is the Main villain's name, his "Base strength" is stronger than Hulk. But Hulk gets stronger the more angry he gets, with potentially infinite strength. And when they're doing it right, he gets bigger as he gets angrier. Because his body creates radiation and turns the radiation into mass which gives him increased strength. 4. Hulk can talk. He just doesn't say much.

👍🙂❤ If we enjoy one Marvel movie every four months with Whimsory. Three movies per year. It will only take about seven and a half years to see her react to Avengers Endgame. 👍🙂❤

Great reaction Whimsory! Just wanted to add that Lou Ferigno played the Hulk in the 70's TV series. 😉

Allot of fans wished Ed Norton would've continued as The Hulk but I don't think he would have helped the Marvel Universe. I like Ed Norton as an actor but he rarely does talk shows and I doubt if he would have been as entertaining as Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo took some heat when he was announced as the new Hulk but I feel he did a great job, even if he dropped a spoiler or two. Great work Whimsory.

This movie was INCREDIBLE! No pun intended ;) What I like about this Hulk is it’s exterior design, the skin tone, texture and muscle fibers popping out so realistic. He looks repulsive, frightening, a Frankenstein monster from a nuclear chaos, but at the same time handsome and other times has a child like innocence to him. His the best Hulk in my opinion. Too bad Edward Norton was very difficult to work with on set that the Director didn’t want to work with him anymore or Kevin Feige 🫤

The 2003 "Hulk" movie is very character driven and has a rich plot. I think you might enjoy its writing. fun fact: the director decided to do the mocap for the Hulk because he had a very specific way for the Hulk to react to the world, and he believed that him doing the mocap was the shortest route to that goal. Eric Bana plays Banner. Eric Bana is also in another good movie "Hanna" (2011) where he trains a child to be an assassin. Also, honorable mentions for viewings, "The Crow" and "True Romance" which both came out in 1993 and are tales of love and revenge. The Crow could be described as supernatural gothic noir, and True Romance is a crime drama, witty clever and stylish. Great channel and i really like staying for your reviews at the end!

Edward Norton is a great OG hulk but yeah changing actors actually fits the marvel comics very well they play around with different universes, new superhero's taking over from the old ones etc. but i digress you have such an amazing style of movie commentary your literally the only one i consistently watch the discussion and analysis to the end every time, honestly can't wait for your next reaction.

The Abomination isn't green, but the lighting is. For example, in the shot you showed at 35:10, you can see that everything around him also has a green tint. I think he's actually kind of white, but in green lighting that makes him look green.

Another subtle callback to the TV show was having the green eyes show the start of the transformation.

Good reaction! The 2003 "Hulk" movie with Eric Bana gives you the origin story. You should watch that movie too.

Speaking as a 6' tall guy with almost 3' long arms (who had a grandmother who never quite reached 5'), in a world of nearly 7' tall shelves... go ahead and ask! Especially if you can't even see if there are any more cans at the middle-to-back of the shelf and your bones are brittle! Those things are NOT safe to climb on, and the stores will NOT help with medical bills if you get hurt! And it's even worse as most stores don't even have enough employees anymore to ask them for help. At worst, I'll slip 6 inches back to the ground. Seriously, their bottom line is not worth you hurting yourself (especially for the with weakened bones, heavy frames, etc.) and I can usually reach the back of the top shelf. Love your reactions, Ms. Whims!
