For the final installment of this year's Fried Egg Guides series, presented by Precision Pro, Andy Johnson and Garrett Morrison do a deep dive into the wonderfully charming Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine. Originally founded in 1896, Walter Travis laid out the current course in 1920 and built what many consider his most eccentric set of greens.

My 77 year old father law and I played there this year. I love Travis (NJCC and Hollywood I’ve played a bunch) and we both agreed it was probably the most fun course we had bother played ever. We both walked him with a push cart and wasn’t too much for him but he could score because of length. It was just a really fun day and one I won’t forget. Those greens are sooooo good.

This September, I accidentally played 10 down the right and hit a wedge to 6 feet center right pin. My host looked at me and said “That’s a 1/1000 shot to hold the green from that angle”. Garrett summed it up perfectly in this video. Great profile.

The addition of mounds & moguls are great design features that help the high handicapper (vs a bunker) and give low handicap golfers more to think about that what would be a simple bunker shot for them.

We stayed at Kennebunkport a few years ago, saw the course from the road but could not play it. Spectacular.

Cape Arundel is brilliant golf course that was in my top two most fun courses played this year. The other "most fun" was Huntercombe...another course that is very walkable, not too long with fun, interesting greens. Great video!!

I played Cape Arundel this week and the property is spectacular. I do find that a little-known course outside Hartford called Keney Park is superior.

@@RunawayJake12 Myopia is my only add. Very similar to Arundel and Oakmont. Played both Myopia and Arundel 50+ times and believe they standalone amongst greens in New England.

I went up to play Nonesuch River Golf Club last week, but wanted to play Cape Arundel. Didn't work out with the buddy I was meeting up with. This place is officially on the list now. Looks like golf the way it should be... on the east coast. ;)

The part talking about the "bumps" That's what I wish more courses, from munis to a place like the Sheep Ranch utilized more. Easier to maintain than bunkers. They'll always be there. You can get a great variety and even deliberate strategy using them. Imagine if more of the Sheep Ranch greens and surrounds looked like these. Extremely playable still for higher handicappers or in the wind. Yet, can be exacting for the lower handicapper. It can even be used for drainage, too to push a certain channel of water away rather than a catch basin right next to a green. Tl;dr: I think I'd like to see less "digging down" and more "building up"

Couples shot 62 for the course record at the time, not 61.
