Naismith told of it later to answer where he got the ideas for basketball. It's a simple target-and-defense game he played as a child, and there's no real reason to single it out as influential other than Naismith's say-so long after the fact. There's a Wikipedia entry on it, and it was known much earlier than 2006 that he'd credited it as an influence. Read the description of play in that entry, and you'll see it's much closer in the line of development of baseball; you can easily see its resemblance to stoolball.
