The Incredibow (Incredibow.com) is a good student model cello bow at a great price. In this video I will unbox and demonstrate this bow and give my honest assessment of how it performs in relationship to my traditional wood bow.
If you are interested in learning how to play the cello as an adult, check out cellodiscovery.com. Cello Discovery is a comprehensive, step-by-step cello course for the adult beginner. Affordable & fun. It's never too late to learn!

Omg. We look similar, at least in my younger years. Thank you for this review. My bow cost about $1200. My spare bow cost less. The incredible sounds great though, and way cheaper, and might be a fun option to try.

Thanks for your thoughtful review, Carolyn, I purchased one of these about 2 weeks ago and have essentially the same impression. Another reviewer mentioned using it for outdoor gigs, which I also agree with. I like the light weight for the baroque pieces I have played with it. The one issue I keep wondering about is the 3-year warranty. Because this bow is a "closed system", it can't be repaired, and they only say "a generous trade-in will be offered" on a replacement. Probably none of us plan on a bow only lasting 3 years. I wonder what issues we should expect to see over time?? Still debating whether to return it, but am leaning toward thinking it will fill a unique niche in my bow arsenal for a reasonable price. Still cherish my wonderful Grabenstein bow, tho... I look forward to exploring your YT Channel!

Hi Bekko- Thanks for reaching out. My overall feeling is that a good bow repair for my traditional bow is upwards of $80 every 6 months. So two bow rehairs is roughly the cost of an Incredibow. I am keeping my Incredibow though I don't really intend to use it. It was worth the purchase to learn about it and to be able to educate others on it if they too are considering purchasing one. And who knows... a time will come in which I will need a really light bow. If so, I'll have one!

Thank you so much for your review! My cheap bow for my vertical viola broke, so I'm really excited to get a little bit better of a replacement than what I had. Do you happen to have a suggestion as to what weight I should get? My instrument is 21", so longer than a standard viola. Should I get the featherweight, or traditional? I'm used to a heavy/clunky 3/4 cello bow.

Thank you for this review Carolyn. Really enticed to get one for all the reasons you listed, but especially, because it is fascinating to me learn about the ongoing innovation and experimentation in the development of musical instruments. While I too prefer the heavier feel of my (rented, probably very inexpensive) wooden bow over the light carbon fiber options, the incredibow will be interesting to experiment with.

@@MysticalDragon73 Yes, I did! My 1x1 cello teacher, who has many decades of performance and instruction experience was very impressed, and more so when I told her how much I paid. Carolyn’s review covers its qualities. I prefer my slightly heavier wooden bow, which is not of much distinction or value, so the Incredibow is my backup and I use it every few weeks as means to get used to the lighter feel and slightly different frog design. Worth trying.

On some parts you can hear better articulation on the incredibow and kinda wants to make greater sound, but the wooden one still makes more whole sound probably becuase of the wood 👀 (and the price x'd)

I think if a new cellist used that bow exclusively, they may find it harder to transition to a 'regular' bow later.
@cellodiscovery
@cellodiscovery Жыл бұрын
Very possibly. But I find a lot of people who learn at an older age have some difficulty with a heavier bow and frog. This bow may not be great for advancing techniques, but it's very easy to get a strong sound out of the cello on the first draw.

Thank you for this review! I'm an adult beginner, and am wondering if the very different design would be a hindrance when it's time to upgrade to a better traditional bow? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.

I think this bow is best for someone who can't afford anything more expensive than the Incredibow. It's very difficult to find a decent bow below that price. I also have a KZbin video on finding the perfect cello bow. I might suggest you watch that if you are in the market for a bow.

Carolyn, thanks for this review. I am perplexed, though, about your seeming opinion that it is only suitable for an "entry-level" player. Why is it not suitable for an intermediate-level player, or for that matter, an advanced player? Other than the obvious, which is that it is a wildly unconventional design with a ridiculously low price and could damage the businesses of trad. bow makers and luthiers and possibly get you in trouble w/ the cello tribe. So, in what way(s), if any (and other than the minor bits you mentioned), did you find it lacking compared with your $10K bow? Were you just being kind in not criticizing its playability? Was the tone inferior? Thank you.
@cellodiscovery
@cellodiscovery 10 ай бұрын
Hi there - So, at my age I don't worry about what the "cello tribe" has to say about my own opinions. ;) But you do have some good points. This bow is very easy to use right out of the box. It is lightweight and grabs the string easily. And for the crazy low price, it's a great option for many folks out there - especially beginners on a budget and adult amateurs who have arthritis or other hand ailments. However, I'd never use it professionally because the sound it creates is a bit harsh, raw, minus the nuance I would expect in a bow. And the frog was a no-go for me. Impossible to hold correctly. Traditional bow makers are like fine chefs. They are artists.They understand what an impact a tiny detail can have on the overall product.
