I would definitely suggest you 'Pranchiyettan and the saint', and 'Kazhcha' . The basic difference between Mammootty and Mohanlal is that Mammootty always experiment with different styles of characters, Mohanlal on the other hand is somewhat trapped among his friend circle, forced to do type roles. Mammootty had done several roles in negative shades (vidheyan, Palerimanikyam) even in 90s which shows his courage.

He has done justice to his stature only a couple of times in the post 2000 era where he is somewhat like feeling complacent about his own career and doesn't attempt to do anything which challenge him. The things have turned so worst in the recent years.

The difference of appearance and voice you notice in a few second glimpses from each movies would be experienced multifold when you really watch those movies. He transforms into the characters completely in minute detailing and you literally forget the actor. As you have seen in the video, Vidheyan and Ponthanmada which bagged the 2nd national award in 1994 is a classic example. But that's only an extreme case of it. You can experience in each of his movies. Even in the lesser movies that may haven't worked in its entirety. Note: Strongly recommending Vidheyan (1994) -available in KZbin with English subtitles.

There may not be another actor in world cinema who has such a varied filmography, that too making a complete transformation into the character, making the star irrelevant. Yaathra, Thaniyaavarthanam, MRUGAYA, Mathilukal, Vidheyan, Pondan Mada, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Amaram, BHOOTHA KANNAADY, Ambedkar, Kaazhcha, Karutha Pakshikal, Pranchiyettan & the Saint, Paalerimanikyam oru Paathira kolapaathakathinte kadha, Munnariyippu, Peranpu ...These movies alone will prove his versatality and 101% transformation into the character.
