Everything we now know about the universe-from the behavior of quarks to the birth of entire galaxies-has stemmed from scientists who’ve been willing to ponder the unanswerable. And with the advent of modern science, great minds have turned to testing and experimentation rather than mere thought as a way of approaching and grappling with some of the universe’s most pressing and vexing dilemmas.
So what is our latest picture of some of the most inexplicable features of the universe? What still remains to be uncovered? What are some of the next avenues of exploration for today’s chemists, physicists, biologists, and astronomers?

I think this is a terrific program designed to educate a broad audience. Most of the world has no idea about any of the topics he presented and without these presentation, including his flair for the dramatic most of us would be less informed. By the way the stuff he is talking about his amazing from my perspective and it reestablishes humility both within and outside of the scientific community

I posted a handful of Neil's lectures back when he was doing classrooms with 30 students. Back before the fame and limelight turned him soft. Back in time when Neil was skinny and hungry. The My Favorite Universe days circa 2003. He's still great at public speach, he is just gettin old.

Brilliant 👏I know this may sound stupid, I was just wondering if Magnatism has anything to do with Dark Matter? I'm sorry for wasting your time. Thank you Michael..

The only way dark matter interact with ordinary matter is by gravity, there is nothing else that comes from dark matter, no radiations, no light, no radio waves, nothing, that's why it's called dark matter. So no it doesn't influence magnetism. 👋

If dark energy and dark matter are meaningless placeholder words for our ignorance perhaps we should call them god.

Why “dark”? You might ask. The correct word should be “obscure” to better convey its unknown nature. Obscure matter and obscure energy. When we didn’t know what electricity was, we used to call it “obscure flow”.

It's because we are "in the dark" as to what they are

This is one of those *shallow pop-science* presentations, full of gee-whizzery but with nothing that we haven't heard before on dumbed-down television documentaries. It's a pity, because other courses by TTC are truly informative and challenging. I think Neil deGrasse Tyson was a poor choice as presenter. He's very much the media celebrity: *too slick and superficial* but with nothing much to say. This is definitely *not* a "great" course.

Freewheeler ! He gives us lesser mortals an opportunity to appreciate the physical sciences. The way I see it, he is like the salesman for physics. I would know because I'm in sales lol

Ridiculous comment. If you want to go and get a degree in Astrophysics then do so. These great programmes bring science to a broad audience, and that's a great thing.
