The Ins & Outs of the FarOut mobile App

Discover how the FarOut mobile App can assist you on your Ice Age Trail journey during this virtual workshop. The official navigational app for the Ice Age Trail, FarOut contains a ton of helpful features, which you’ll learn all about. It will be most helpful if you already have the FarOut app purchased and downloaded to your mobile phone. See a live demonstration, find out how it works without Internet service, plus have the opportunity to ask questions.

This is very cool! I’m 53 so straying away from paper map and compass is tough for me. While I have a brand new iPhone and battery bank, I’m still not trusting enough that SOMETHING couldn’t happen to any phone in the backcountry rendering navigation done. I guess this old guy needs to keep learning about it. Thank you so much for putting this out there. I’m backpacking this weekend on the LT and all the AT thruhikers have you guys on their phone. Where is the lower michigan nct trail???!!!

You cannot delete a map from this. The entire map section every icon and every piece of info and detail still displays in the apps map.

Farout only has northern Michigan nct trsil maps..why not lower michigan

Hi, we don't manage any of the NCT maps in FarOut. We recommend reaching out to the North Country Trail Association (northcountrytrail.org/contact/) or FarOut (faroutguides.com/) with your questions!

Where can i park my jeep while I through hike? Can I leave my car parked for 3.5 months?

Hi John, you won't be able to park your car along the Trail during your thru-hike unless you find a private land owner or business that'd give you permission to park it on their private property. Unfortunately FarOut supports Israel's Genocide in Occupied Palestine so I will be boycotting the app until they change their stance. I still hope to complete the Ice Age Trail! Does anyone have any alternate recommendations for navigation?

They skipped over the entire basics. FFS they didn't bother explaining anything about the interface, the layout, and how to navigate through the app. How did she accesss the store? Are people somehow supposed to know what the Icons are. There is t even a legend/key.

The FarOut App can be downloaded for free from your phone's app store. For example, if you have an iPhone, you can download the app from the Apple App Store on your phone. After you download the app, you have to purchase the Ice Age Trail map(s) within the app. The video explains how to do that starting here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXPHdqB9nd9lq80si=I8Evn21a-TAon-zd&t=120.
