Ironically I think Iceborne's Lance is the best version of the weapon because of the clutch claw. It's one of the few instances where Capcom integrated it into the moveset so well. Rise Lance is a bit of a letdown because it's Silkbinds are kinda garbage. Definitely my go to pick for fighting Tigrex and all its variants in any game though. Brute Tigrex is an absolute breeze with it.
@ZonaiHero-ul5nm6 ай бұрын
@@OuroborosTalks I wouldn’t say Lance silk binds are garbage I mean twin vine allows you to easily close gaps between monsters, plus the additional counters plays on its strengths, but to each their own.
@OuroborosTalks6 ай бұрын
My problem is that they generally feel really lackluster in comparison to other Silkbinds. The counter is really not that great because its effectiveness decreases as you get more points in guard. Twin vine can be helpful, but it feels like Lance really missed out on some kind of big beefy attack. Compare that to something like SnS Shoryugeki which has a guard point, counter, and deals massive damage, or GL Bullet Barrage which reloads and dumps everything all in one go, and you can understand my disappointment.

As a Switch Axe player who occasionally swaps to Hunting Horn, Insect Glaive or Heavy Bowgun, i can definitely say that each weapon has it's own intricacies the Swaxe is good for slow moving monsters since i get a solid chance to build up ZSD for big damage, Wild Swing into Blade Morph is also a fun way to get small monsters off of you the Glaive needs to consistently hit the monster with the Kinsect because it sucks without the extracts and aiming it can be difficult, the Aerial attacks cannot bounce off so that's a big plus against monsters with armor or that can gain armor like Kirin and Velkhana Hunting Horn is a blunt weapon so tail cuts aren't possible but it's also really good at knocking down monsters while you buff up yourself and those around you, pretty sure it also has the best ground movement thanks to Self Improvement and rarely being low on stamina lastly, the HBG (or at least my HBG build) requires you to have really good positioning so you can hit all of the Spread Ammo pellets since there is a sweet spot, also having the slowest sheathing animation makes it difficult to stay out of harms way All in all, weapon variety is fun for approaching different monsters, sorry for the wall of text

Deviljho with SnS really isn't that bad. The trick is getting straight under him. Unless it's like a gold crown sized one, you have enough range to get hits on the belly, which is one of Jhos weaker spots, and furthermore, continuous attacks in the ankles can trip him over. I'd say the worst kind of fight for SnS is something like Azure Rathalos, monsters that basically spend most of the fight airborne.

Fighting Primordial Malzeno with counter lance is one of the best fights I've had in all of the series
@Fioriole5 ай бұрын
I 100% agree. I like a very offense-oriented playstyle, and PriMalzeno is heavily rewarding for that. Phase 1 is a very honest 1-on-1, head-to-head duel. It'll precisely attack you straight on, much like your own pokes. Pretty simple instablock timings, but it's a shining example of that back-and-forth style of Lance that was mentioned in the video. It's a monster that doesn't take an eternity to wind up any attack, so there's a very natural rhythm to the fight. The later phases, it actually starts fighting dirtier, often crossing up your shield and throwing out projectiles that sometimes overlap with attacks from its main body. This heavily tests your positioning. It also has the unblockable quad-laser move to keep you on your toes, with your best response being Sheathing Retreat. Forces you not to rely on instablock too much. Final phase, when it starts its long combo strings, is an excellent final test for all of the Lance's abilities. You could turtle and suffer chip damage, but Malzeno's combo routes only have two variations, so you can feasibly memorize and preempt them, getting in instablock after instablock and squeezing in your own counter attacks while every other hunter is on the run from the onslaught. It really tests your pattern recognition, instablock timing, and positioning. One of the most satisfying fights in the series that makes you feel invincible once mastered.

The point of the DOOM comment was more about the agression and mobility factor. I was thinking about DB and IG when I made that comment. I know MH is closest to Dark Souls, but we can still draw parallels to other games.

Lol. I can tell you don't play SnS. Deviljho is a perfectly fine matchup. In fact SnS actually has no bad matchups. And in Iceborne it has some of the highest dps in the game with perfect rush. Advice for fighting Deviljho, just keep hitting his legs. When he tries to do his counter attack you can just slinger burst his face and knock him into a huge topple. Then go to town on his chest for huge damage with a few perfect rush combos. It's actually a great matchup.
@OuroborosTalks6 ай бұрын
I do play SnS. You literally proved my point by saying, "Just keep hitting his legs." You're limited to hitting a bad hitzone. Savage Deviljho's hindlegs have a slicing hit zone of 33 and blunt of 36 both of which are not enough to proc WEX. You would need to tenderize them which SnS can't do without a tenderizer gem, and we all now how rare those are. Compare that to something like Lance or Long Sword which can both better target areas even while Jho is not toppled. We can even look at the time attack runs on the leaderboards. SnS ranks 13th of 14 on the time attack ruleset against Savage Deviljho. It only beats out Gunlance. For the freestyle ruleset, it ranks 8th. While considerably better, it's still middle of the pack at best. I understand that SnS can do just fine against Jho. Every weapon can defeat every monster. I'm not trying to clown on the weapon or those who play it but, compared to other weapons, it is objectively more difficult to use against Jho.
@chewbacachunks86446 ай бұрын
@@OuroborosTalks tenderizer gems aren't too rare. With just a bit of farming some of the event quests you should be drowning in them. Also you do know that SnS can wound in one clutch claw without clutch claw boost? The clutch claw uppercut allows you to wound in one go. Once you get familiar with using the uppercut it becomes really easy to keep up tenderizes. If we are talking Speedrunning it might be weaker than others due to it's range. But it isn't hard. Not even close. I am by no means a speedrunner and I find Deviljho easy with the SnS.
@chewbacachunks86446 ай бұрын
Also the MHworld leaderboard site you are likely getting information from is old. It hasn't been updated in a very long time. There have been records broken since the site has gone dormant and it hasn't been updated. Also it still has runs on it that belong to a runner who was outed for cheating. But since it hasn't been updated those runs are still up. It is still the most comprehensive and detailed look at freestyle and TA runs we have. But unfortunately since the site is dead it doesn't give the whole picture.
@OuroborosTalks6 ай бұрын
I had about 300 hours on my Xbox account and only got 1 tenderizer gem despite farming event quests dozens of times. I also have always found the clutch claw uppercut to be really inconsistent especially against a lot of MR monsters since they can sometimes move sporadically. Add on top of that my distaste for the clutch claw in general and I tend to not use it. I'll agree to disagree with you here. I really feel SnS does worse than most weapons against Jho, but you're welcome to think otherwise.
