I've always seen the IP as a broken mirror. But with this broken mirror the shards from it come together to make a silhouette of Sonic. In each of the broken mirror shards you can see different interpretations of Sonic and how different they can be from one another. But then you can feel that they somehow have this presence that no matter what version at the end of the day it's still Sonic.

People have many words about Sonic as a character and series. Fast, Free, Independent, Cocky, Inconstant, Reputation, etc. But for me as someone that got into sonic due to Sonic X and growing up during the "Dark Ages" and Meta Era (THE REAL DARK AGES IMO). There's 2 I can think of with Sonic, and it's why I remained loyal to the series after everything. ENDURANCE & TENACITY "I'm a spark that won't go out" is a line that puts me in the brink of tears every time I hear it in One Way Dream. Cause it perfectly represents Sonic's BIGGEST strength as a character and as a gaming franchise legend. Any other franchise would have died out or never recovered. Sonic no matter the situation found ways to stay alive no matter how much filth was being dragged to it. I despise the Meta Era cause seeing Sonic making fun of itself, no different from online saddens me personally. It felt like I was seeing the 1st game series I adored giving up and dying in front of me. (Skylanders dying out around this time didn't help as it was my 2nd big game series) and at the time. I was in a depressed mind set at the time (Due to personal events out of my control) and only had Splatoon as the only ongoing series to enjoy, though Splatoon 2 just felt like more and more of a job at some point to pass time (Cause depression sucks). So seeing this comeback from Sonic now as an adult fills me with so much joy. Alongside knowing that I'm not the only one who felt this way with the Meta Era. While it was better received than the Dark Ages from a general/causal viewpoint. The Meta Era is soulless and left Sonic without an identity. Forces while imo not a bad game left a bad scar on 3D Sonic no different from the "New" Super Mario series with 2D Mario. (Thank the STARS for Sonic Frontiers and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. My GOATs are doing GREAT!)

Advance 1 and 2 were fire and kinda mirrored the original games. Advance 1 had speed but was more platforming heavy, Advance 2 though just like sonic 2 cranked the speed WAYYY up and arguably introduced boost before rush did

0:20 If I'm not mistaken, Sonic's jump to 3D was actually praised and well recieved at the time, there were some maganizes praising many good things about Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Adventure 2 to this day still is one of the Sonic games with some of the best reviews ever, it has 90+ score in Metacritic (the Dreamcast version, because the GameCube port has around 70~80) it was exactly AFTER SEGA left the console marketing that Sonic started getting weaker in reception, Heroes, unlike SA2 which was the game prior, was not so well-recieved, and that became even worse in 2005 (with Shadow the Hedgehog) onwards, with some small exceptions, until where we are now, ever since Movie 1 where it looks like Sonic is climbing up again I love the Sonic series a lot, not only because I actually enjoy most of those games, including many from these 2 decades where it was trying to climb back up, but because I admire that they kept going even when all that was happening, and that recap of those last 5 years with One Way Dream kicking in... aw man! Gave me literal chills! So happy seeing this series I love so much managing to stay strong with the help of those who love it

A thing that most people ignore when talking about the sonic games is that most of them have a secret rule that every player needs to learn. To me, a player has to get used to a game's jank (aka get gud) cuz once they do, the Sonic games can be pretty fun (some of the games that """suffer""" from this the most are the adventure games, Sonic 1, advance 2 etc). But the problem is that not everyone wants to spend hours and hours to get gud at a sonic game and until then, they'll have most likely given up and said "this game SUCKS"

Sonic 06 xbox version only was actually good. Never had bugs issues with it ever, now there was glitches in the game like the infinite jump exploit and i loved it. If u want to enjoy the game at all or for the first time, play the xbox version or the remastered sonic p-06 pc game

whats more appreciated despite sonic fumbling the hardest becoming internet punching bag, Sonic team never quit trying anything to make sonic games. Even if they misunderstand or doesn't have that much support over their game design, you have to appreciate that they saved sonic's fate from becoming like other 3D platformer except mario which its being abandoned by their perspective company. No matter how many people think sonic is dead, They will just gonna look back again to the recent games.

Title deceived me, I thought this was another powerscaling video talking about Sonic's physical durability, dang. The bit in the beginning about Sonic plummeting from SA1 is so ignorant for those who say that. Not being equally as praised as SM64 does not translates to flop or bad game or whatever. All that being said, this is like the closest and only time where I'll ever see SCD, SA2, SU, and Sonic Frontiers held highly in collection. Typically you don't see fans who like all these particular games. It's unfortunate though that Sonic 1 wasn't deemed good here. Sonic 1 is still definitely a strong title, even if it might potentially be the weakest in the classic tetralogy. It's not a flawed enough game to label it bad or mid. It hold ups very well, especially depending on which version you're playing. edit: Oh yeah the comparisons to Mario bit. A comedic part about the mostly onesided and oneminded comparisons is that outside maybe Shuffle (haven't played it), Sonic spinoffs and mainline games actually have rivaled and in some cases even surpassed Mario's. Lost World is the only compelling argument against Sonic.

When i think about it, i find it very weird when comparing mario and sonic. Imo, Mario games arent too different from each other most the time. The mechanics are very similar and little to nothing is changed. (Except for the paper games, super paper mario, thousand year door, and the 1 after that were good but the game started being too heavily reliant on gimmicks for combat mechanics) yet ppl still eat it up. Sonic fans get grumpy and claim sega is scared to change things when they constantly do. Sonic has gone through multiple different playstyles with different mechanics yet ppl still find reasons to complain. Mario can keep things relatively the same and no one bats an eye, meanwhile sonic cant seem to win in terms of what the fans want, even when they try their best to deliver experiences similar to what they enjoyed. Unleashed is 1 of sonics best modern games imo and ppl HATED it back when it dropped.

I have a hard time believing that sales chart at all. For starters, iirc Sonic 06 became a platinum hit and you need to sell a good amount of units to do that. This chart would imply that wasn’t the case.

The History of Sonic (sonic fan edition) Was PEAK on the genesis Had an awful transition to 3D (ON THE SATURN) was REVIVED on the dreamcast with The Adventure Games Started well on multiplataform with heroes had a downfall with Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic 06 was REVIVED again with Sonic Unleashed (believe me the werehog levels are actually fun) released colors and generations, fantastic games with bad stories fell again with lost world abd BOOM was REVIVED with Sonic Mania but FELL again with Forces was finally REVIVED once again with frontiers and now the series hasn't been better.
