F-35 is the most widely produced and exported 5th Generation fighter. It's basically a Skynet mainframe computer with wings and stealth coating. You mentioned GTA, in GTA Online's recent updates the F-160 Raiju is mainly inspired from the F-35.

The F-35 comes in three variants designated by the letter on the end. The B variant is the only one with VTOL capability. The reason you'd want a jet without that is because once you take off the lift fan is dead wieght. On all the other variants that space is used for extra fuel or armaments. The other downside is that because you are taking off vertically rather than horizontally, it uses up more fuel than a normal take off. This is why the F-35B is only for the marines who don't have the ability to use long runways like the Airforce or airplane catapults like the Navy Carriers do.

"This is why the F-35B is only for the marines who don't have the ability to use long runways like the Airforce or airplane catapults like the Navy Carriers do."(sic) Yet Marine Corps STOVL - not VTOL - F-35Bs utilize rolling takeoffs aboard LHAs/LHDs and Marine Corps F-35Cs launch using catapults from CVNs.

@AA-xo9uw I was explaining the concept and trade-offs of VTOL/STOVL as it seemed there was confusion as to why not all aircraft had it. So, simplification of reality was used for explanation.

@raymurray340110 ай бұрын
Regarding why they need a runway if they can take off and land vertically, it’s mainly because it takes longer and burns a lot more fuel to takeoff vertically and because of the space taken up by the fan it’s not capable of carrying as much fuel as the A or C variants. So they will normally only land it vertically. As for the speed tho it’s top speed isn’t as high as other fighter jets the lower speed does provide an advantage in the form of less fuel consumption allowing it to loiter above the battlefield engaging targets for a significantly longer duration than other aircraft.

The harrier and 1 Russian jet are the only combat jets to be able to hover. This is an amazing video ! Thanks for doing!! This video is an amazing example for those thst say it’s crap, they just don’t understand what’s gone into the engineering , and that’s only what we know, so much more classified !

Their was the first Russian VTOL the Yak-26 which wasn’t so much of a success as the Yak 38. Yak-38 is the only Russian jump jet that went into service, but they also had the experimental prototype the Yak-141 which was the first VTOL capable jet with an afterburner which means it was also the first vtol jet to go supersonic with many similarities to the F-35. Other than the Russians other countries like Germany and France, made attempts to make their own VTOL aircraft in the 50’s and 60’s but they never really went anywhere.

In the air, the 22 kills the 35, all day....but that's 95% of what it does....dominate the air game. The 35 is three airframes in one platform designed to "hive mind" with surface ships, artillery, mobile armor, maned air assets, ai air assets and infantry. The 22 just kills anything and everything in the air without exception and goes home.

F35 variants (A/B/C) are for different branches of the military. Air force, Navy and Army. The B variant is for the Navy and needs to take off from a ship where vertical takeoff is useful. A and C don't have the turbine in the center because they get access to regular runways. The empty space is filled with other things depending on the variant but mostly for extra fuel tanks. That's as far as i know, please correct me if I'm wrong. F35 basically: "How many features do you want the plane to have?" "YES"
@jeremybrowand594110 ай бұрын
The B variant is for the marine corps. The US navy doesn't need the vertical lift fan for short take off / vertical landing since the navy super carriers employ catapults and arresting wires. This alloys the navy variant to save weight since it doesn't need the lift fan.
@trollingpcgames10 ай бұрын
like the previous comment stated, the f35B is more intended for export and the marine corp since they can take off from smaller carriers originally meant for helicopters. the F35A is like a normal fighter jet so it is designed to takeoff from normal runways and has a higher max takeoff weight. while the F35C is the variant meant for the navy, it has stronger landing gear to be able to land on aircraft carriers and an arresting hook to grab the wire on the carrier.
