I always thought that Goku's eyelids are red because when closed resembles the Oozaru's normal red eyes and kind of symbolizes the simultaneous merge of them both. Or even a metaphor of Goku being an Oozatu with his eyes closed, and himself when his eyes are open if you think about it. Goku's shoes in GT kind of resemble more classic kung fu shoes which could also make him look closer to his monkey king roots. Even if what I notice are coincidences I think they perfectly fit the closure of bringing Goku back to his roots as a Saiyan and Son WuKong.

I actually like SS4's design more than SSB's design, honestly. SSB is just SS1 with blue hair, eyes, and aura. SS4 combines the two things that made Saiyans cool in the first place, being the tails and Oozaru form and the regular Super Saiyan idea itself. SS4's power has also been much more consistent than SSB over time, with SSB being used to fight anything and everything, while SS4 did struggle against later enemies, but also didn't get used like a doorknob.

I always thought that SSJ4 felt like a natural progression from SSJ3. SSJ3 made the characters look a bit like Neanderthals with the pronounced brows, so if SSJ4 is supposed to be the "primal form", I think it makes sense for the Saiyans to look even more ape-like. Also the red eyeliner might be a nod to "Eye black" that apparently American sportsmen use to reduces glare (which is debatable) or to just look "cool". They might have made it red, because a black eyeliner would just make the eyes lines look too thick and red fits with the fur and all.

I used to think I didn’t like SSJB’S design until after remembering DBGT. Watching SSJ4 in action is just so cool and it was always the form that would get shit done. I think SSJB misses that since they made goku transform into blue against every opponent and struggle in the process. Also, the inconsistency with stamina, which I think SSJ4 handled pretty well.

You are right he does struggle alot in his blue form. Puzzles me as to why they even made more forms after 3. All they had to do was just make SSJ 3 3D if they find it difficult to animate.

I prefer SSB's mechanics on paper but the execution is very flawed. The manga is more consistent with its own idea of SSB, but I actually don't like that idea as much, turning it from this unique mixture of god ki mechanics into a simply difficult-to-manage powerup. However, I felt the Broly movie best displayed the contrast, namely by showcasing the calming aspect of regular SSG's fighting style first. Hopefully, future media will manage it similarly.

Ssj4 is the only form I put above ssj1 because they’re the most character/story driven. Ssj4 is the PERFECT final form for a saiyan/tool to use in a “revenge against the saiyans” story. And ssj vs frieza speaks for itself as well. The rest are good but more about “cool power up” then symbolic story driven pieces like ssj1/4 are . But that’s just me.

I wish Goku kept his tail, it's one of the reasons I love the Super Saiyan 4 look more than Blue, because it goes back to the roots and makes him look like a true Monkey King, like how the original Dragonball was inspired by Journey to the West. We kind of get that with Xeno Goku, he even still has the power pole which is awesome, but unfortunately isn't canon either.

GTs plot was fine. The issue was it did exactly what z did. Focused only on goku. People say gokus friends did shut in z but they didn’t. What did piccolo do besides get two power up that did nothing but hype the villains power up? He’s a legit babysitter by buus arc. So while gt did fail to diversify the focus…..z did it first. Been an issue since piccolo jr.

@@fridaynightnicktoons6885 Bruh what? Did Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Krillin, Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin not fight the Saiyans? Yeah they got bodied, but atleast they did something. Getting to do shit doesn't mean they have to win their battles. They can contribute to the story in minor ways, such as Bulma, which technically speaking contributed the most to the story, kicking off Goku's story and all. Krillin, Bulma and Gohan got their time to shine during the Namek Saga, notice how despite being mostly outclassed, Krillin and Gohan managed to stay away from Freeza and co. Yamcha took Goku to get the heart medicstion inthe Android arc, Tenshinhan helped find the Androids, held Cell back for a few minutes, Krillin found Gero's Lab, killed Present Cell, got a new girlfriend, fought Cell and actually made it out alive. Piccolo got a major power boost, and was the only one capable of beating the Androids and Cell at one point, Bulma made the detonator for the Androids, was the only one who knew about Dr.Gero and his lab's location, and literally has the Dragon Radar which is why they are able to use the Dragon Balls in the first place. Gohan quite literally became the protagonist during the 2nd half of the arc. It was the Buu arc where the primary focus were Goku, Gohan, Vegeta and Gotenks. Once again, they don't need to beat every opponent they face to "Do shit". Also, Goku wasn't even present for about 75% of the Freeza and Cell saga, and considering how he's the main character, that just shows that the side characters were infact much more used.

I'll be honest, I kinda prefer the placement of the fur in the original design, I like the bigger emphasis on the abs. As much as I like the concept of SSJ4, I think there are aspects of the design that make it look too busy. I think even just the hair, eyes and tail already create a huge impact compared to previous forms.

I was thinking the same thing, to me the way SS4's chest and and upper abs are the are the only part on his torso that are hairless looks way too much like a weird cleavage. I'm also not that crazy about the eyeshadows.

I think the idea behind having only the upper abs and chest exposed is to have him look more like a gorilla since they also have those areas exposed and everything else covered in fur. Personally, I like it

It is interesting that you point out that the design could have taken inspiration from the costumes of Renjishi actors, since I totally agree the wigs look just like SSJ4, but for the eyes I was under the impression that their origin was of something different. It is said in many of Sun Wukong's stories that he possessed fiery red eyes, and this is why in so many depictions of him he has red rims to his eyes, very similar to those of SSJ4. In fact, some have gone forward to suggest that said red rims could have been directly inspired by the red rimmed eyes of the Rhesus Macaque, which may have been the species of monkey that Sun Wukong was designed to resemble. I had assumed that Nakatsuru had gone back to Goku's origins when making SSJ4, but if this is entirely a coincidence then it would be an interesting one at that!

I had an idea for Goku's new form which should have been instead of ssg. its basically Goku gets taller, resembling the Ozaaruu slightly more, his hair becomes white, and he has fur all over. I call it Super saiyan Long. Goku gets it after he wishes to borrow some of shenlong's power, fused with his ape saiyan powers, and shenlong's magic energy. he has a no star dragonball on his abdomen.

The way I remember it was that Akira drew SSJ4 Goku. There's a picture of the draft he sent. I remember reading he only had little input in the GT series. He approved it yes but only gave SSJ4 design and I think a few character designs but I remember clearly reading he gave the SSJ4 design. It's a pen drawing with a yellow background. He also later said he views GT as a spinoff or side story to his original.

Dude I think you forgot dragon balls ORIGINAL roots. Sun wukong in journey to the west. Goku is based on that character and keeps many traits. Sun wukong is son goku in japanese. Wukong is typically depicted with red fur and red eye liner as monkeys were usually given in old art. One of his key features were his golden eyes. Gogeta takes even more from wukong, like the cloning technique and his monkey shenanigans. Broly was designed both times as a reference to wukong as well. Super saiyan 4 is NOT based on kabuki. Its the culmination of everything dragon ball.

We can't really say that the abdominal area was ever settled by the character sheet because it is the part that changes the most from supervisor to supervisor. It always looks different. Gt is canon to the DBZ anime by tori,and super anime is canon to Kai . Supers manga is canon to toriyamas manga. Get it?

Super Saiyan 4 is a great concept, yeah i find it dumb how the magical wristband and pants appear, but I didn't paid attention to that cause i was a kid and didn't realize how dumb that was, but the transformation was badass cause it felt strong and intimidating giving that feeling that everything would be alright and tbh it was great cause it got shit done in the end. Super Saiyan God or Blue to me it feels the same when it comes to fighting strong opponents, it doesn't help much at all, on Super I don't remember God or Blue getting a clear "W", SsGod Lost to Berrus, the SS Blue Lost to Hit, Jiren, Broly and Moro , the only one that gives that strong vibe it's the Ultra Instic but Goku hasn't Master it yet and tbh hasn't got a clear "W" either cause he runs out of it cause of plot. I like the concept but I don't feel any diference from a normal Super Saiyan. I would had being ok if the Normal Super Saiyan would had gotten way strong, like Trunks did with his Super Saiyan 2 and Power Up to Ultra Instic with out the need of SS God or SS Blue. But that's just My opinion i don't hate God or Blue but both transformation got over shadow quickly with another new transformation.

2:30, so I guess the fusion dance is kinda like a Kabuki dance to an extent. Oh..one more thing. Perfect Cell's head design looks REALLY japanese to me because it reminds me of a Shirabyoshi. Probably why they kept the yellow pants is that imo, the yellow represents the Super Saiyan aspect in some sense while the fur represents Oozaru so marrying the two to make a new Super Saiyan form might have been on purpose.

Ssj4 had a better/more creative design than ssjg or ssjb they had better story’s and build up though. but you can’t beat the creativeness of this form. was just the hair that changed colour in the others this kinda took you back to dragon ball with the oozaru vibes like watching something go back to its roots it’s heritage
