I think one problem is that we seem to have lost all nuance in conversations these days. The coffee example is perfect. Coffee is neither good or bad for you it has both good and bad effects and it depends a lot on your personal situation. Everyone wants a simple answer to every question and it's just not possible.

Just found your channel from the Gen Z Humour video and I may or may not have binged your stuff; With the last section (Echo Chambers), it happened to me big time. During the votes for Brexit being cast, every account that I followed (especially massive meme accounts) were promoting posts upon posts saying we should vote to stay. To my 14 (now 20) year old self- it seemed like a FUCK ton of people agreed with these. Now, I couldn't vote because of my age, but I completely didn't realise that social media will give you posts leaning towards the viewers political views and etc (your echo chamber/social bubble). I only found out about it after my brother explained it to me a few days before the voting finished. There's more I could talk about it, but I think this comment will be long as fuck lmao.

Awesome content!! Here’s my take/summary on the message of the video 😊: The internet is an echo - chamber. You are not likely to come across a healthy balanced platter of diverse research and perspectives on the internet because it caters to your beliefs and your subjective view of reality. Opinion: If you want to have an echo - chamber free research experience, I think these tips could be helpful! Just an opinion - Try the library! And intentionally buy books from authors who share different perspectives than you -Listen to content - creators who share different beliefs than you, or watch channels that post things such as the following: Interviews, Testimonials, Debates, etc. - It would seem that people don’t typically talk in terms of “I think ____” or “In my opinion _____” even when they should. Try to remember that. I think it is helpful to, as you read content, insert, “In their opinion” or “In their experience”, so it doesn’t carry so much weight for you. In my experience, the best way to escape an echo - chamber is just to listen to regular people’s experiences. Especially people who seem unique or “foreign” to you,strangers, friends, etc. And most importantly, yourself! It is easy to live trapped in an entire reality and narrative given to you by the algorithm. But you are a growing, changing person! Your experiences may OFTEN contradict the narrative that your echo - chamber feeds you. It’s only a reflection of you. It isn’t you. Listen to your experiences. You are capable of coming to healthy conclusions about life on your own. In some cases, I believe constantly researching things keeps us from practicing healthy critical thinking about the world around us. Ask yourself, what would you think about [insert controversial topic] had you only used your personal experience of life as a resource for gathering your conclusion on the subject? - Fun fat, I recently had a drastic change in my belief system and it has been fun watching the internet figure out what the heck is going on 😂
@yo-ajax9762 жыл бұрын
An Excellent Explanation, I agree a whole lot of what you said great job writing this, and thanks for the tips, I hope we all can experience things and are able to understand other people viewpoint, but also have our own understanding of it, I believe having a neutral mindset is the best way of understanding and experiencing something, since you are not stuck or limited on either sides you are free to understand both the logic and flaws of each sides. Of course in the end it's up to each and every one of us I'm not aiming to force my ideal on anyone, feel free to have a take on this comment however you like it's your choice in the end
@WiresDawson2 жыл бұрын
@@yo-ajax976 if the world has taught me anything, it's that there's no such thing as a neutral mindset, due to the subjective nature of our experiential existence, but otherwise i agree with your points. i think empathy and compassion, as well as rational and critical thinking are all important, perhaps essential, but ultimately we can only see so far outside of our own perspectives and it's important to remember that. neutrality is still a great thing to work towards, though. (...even if i personally believe it's unattainable, and sometimes even detrimental in certain circumstances.)

Great video! underrated even. I think my only criticism about this video is that the search engine neutrality test is a bit biased because of there's only one person searching. I'd argue the better methodology is to pull up and compare search results of a couple different people that you know have somewhat of a different worldview. Search engine with the most different results between accounts means that it has a stronger content personalisation algorithm, i.e. the one which gaslight you the most. All in all, great video, great presentation.
