I have zero use for a selfie camera, zero use for 3 out of the 4 cameras on the back of my S20, and would much rather that space inside filled with a bigger battery. Would be a bonus if it cut the cost down as well, but even at the same price I would still buy the phone without a selfie camera.

An iphone will sell maybe 50 million units. Also, Apple is the top spender for RND for phone related topics (samsung has almost double RND budget but it is divided between all the hundreds of product lines they have). So saying that apple doesn’t innovate is wrong. You can say they are not willing to put out a pre-mature technology but then again, y would they with the amount of units they sell.

I really like these videos showcasing brand new, cutting edge technology. Even though it's clearly not quite competing with other options yet, it is cool to see these companies making such interesting advancements and to see it in early stages like this. That privacy concern is the most Important question of this video. Due to the unrest a lot more facial recognition cameras were deployed by law enforcement. You know they're going to eventually implement this tech into that surveillance. Get ready.

Companies run on earnings so removing something that is really, really, really used by the majority of people would be extremely bad.

I agree. I really hate the thought of having a camera pointed directly in my face all the time! Luckily there are privacy covers/phone cases you can buy and put over the cameras when you aren't using them. But by removing the camera modules completely you could fill up the freed space with something else, like a bigger battery or perhaps even a small projector? 🤔

In regards of privacy, I remember when I got the Galaxy S9 I would randomly hear the aperture click when the phone was locked and just sitting on the table next to me, and I had the suspicion it was a FB app and when I uninstalled Messenger, I never heard the aperture clicking again.
