I remember hearing stories about McGuigan, a man with an insatiable blood lust, had to once be physically restrained from cutting a protestand mans head off during a fight, killed his 'best friend' Sammy Ward the IPLO leader, and even killed a dog for barking at his kid or something. His kill crazy attitude stopped his rise in DAAD, of which both he and Davison were members, their rivaly went back years and it was no great surprise a lunatic like McGuigan ended up shooting him dead in the street. Stone cold psycho. I remember someone said of the situation " If a man like Kevin says hes going to kill you, you better do something about it"

The problem with most of these comments (besides the absolute bollox of them) is that one had to grow up in the Markets of Strand to understand the cut of our place. You can’t superimpose your own worldview and life over conflicts like ours. Both there’s men came from the Markets but lived in the Strand. Keven for the better part of his life. They were both married into local Strand families who still live there. Besides what people think they know about them and what the actually were, many of us know what they were like in everyday life and that in the midsts of conflict. For example. When a squad of loyalist dragged a local lad onto the newtonards rd in an attempt to drag him into pit park one night in 85, and Keven in only a pair of jeans no shoes no top and crack of a few shots, undoubted saving the kids life. And the same year in the summer when a breakaway mob from a loyalist parade numbering in the hundreds tried to break through the same peace wire into the Strand and Keven again stood out and fired a volley causing them to split quick smart. Still waters run deep.
