My mother had a coworker from Iran. When he was 14 he decided he wanted to stand out in the crowd so one day he went out wearing mismatched socks and a few other out of the ordinary accessories. Completely trivial stuff. He caught the attention of the police, who picked him up and over the course of several days savagely beat him, starved him and on multiple occasions held a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Each time he wondered if that was the time the gun may be loaded. After about a week, they dumped him in the street, beaten but lucky to be alive. He got the hell out and found his way to the U.S.

I'm from Romania, although what I'm about to tell you applies to practically all Balkan nations. The anti-emo narrative had gotten very strong here starting with, say, 2008-2009. There were countless shows on TV where boomers would meet-up to speculate whether emos were Satan worshippers, narcotics addicts and/or people who purposefully wanted to convince as many people as possible to commit suicide. Thus, our parent's generation, who didn't really know any better, were terrified at the prospect of their child turning emo, the regular-ass gopniks were purposefully targeting people they deemed to be "emos" to beat up (however, as a funny sidenote, their definition of emo was practically 'long hair, dressed in back', so they sometimes mistook metalheads and bikers for emos, so you can imagine how that could backfire). There's a very famous REAL screenshot from a TV show of the Era, which kinda became a meme, but basically on the now defunct OTV television channel, there was an on-screen poll where the audience could vote via SMS, phrased simply "Do you agree that all emos should be executed?". 53% were in favour for yes.

I would like to suggest two absolute madlads from ww2: Joseph Medicine Crow, and Joseph Beryle. Joseph Medicine Crow was a member of the crow tribe of native Americans in Montana that fought for the U.S. in Europe. His tribe had four criteria for becoming a warchief which included taking a weapon of an enemy in battle and stealing a horse from an alone my. He performed all four feats and wrote back to his tribe asking to be named a warchief and was given the title Joseph beryle fought in Europe as well, and was captured, and then escaped, captured again, and escaped. He kept escaping his German captors, and eventually found his way to the Eastern front where he joined the red army and fought for them. There is a picture of him from one of his detentions where he is glowering at the camera. When he asked what he was thinking about when it was taken his answer was whether or not he could kill the photographer before the guards could stop him
