Im trying to contact the SEC to update the Music Exam by emails, phone calls, more emails, and i tried to find their HQ but no luck. They finally got back to me and gave me a seperate email to contact. I emailed it 2 weeks ago. No response.

Trust me England has a better education system. I really prefer English schools as an Irish person. Their national curriculum is a lot more broad and they have better computing education. Some of the best English state schools would be considered private in Ireland. Plus the vocational studies in England are far better and the Irish exams are a joke compared to GCSEs and A-Levels. English students study more in-depth and don't have to study pointless subjects they'll forget about. It's why they lead in the world in higher education research and Ireland is lacking in that regard.

That was very informative and entertaining. In England the preoccupation is with A levels which students sit at 18. When the results are published the commentariat claim the exams are too easy if results have improved. The Irish education system seems to offer a broader curriculum for the Leaving Cert. A level students can specialise and take just 3 or 4 subjects in a particular subject area like science or humanities. Despite (or because of?) its success in countries like Germany, vocational education is still looked down upon by the political class in the UK. I've heard about people's enthusiasm for the Irish language being drummed out of them at school. Learning a language is a bit like learning a musical instrument. Teach students material they can play without much difficulty and when they're confident start to introduce some theory. Teaching Irish must be demoralising at times; I wonder why Irish language teachers don't push for a better curriculum. Once again, thanks for uploading such a helpful video.

I use Duolingo to learn languages. Through that, I'm relearning Spanish, in which I'm at about a college level two or three. I'm learning French, at which I'm at about a high school level three, Italian, at which I'm at about high school level one, and Irish Gaelic, at which I'm about maybe an elementary school level. It's a great tool, you don't feel like you're learning, you feel like you're playing a video game instead.

sorry to bother, but I have some questions. how many leaving cert examinations you have during the Second level education? because I see you have a junior cert in the third year, is it important as same as Leaving Cert examination of last year? whether the result of the junior cert will influence the students? thanks for your reply.

No need to be sorry, it's no bother at all! Students typically have 7 Leaving Cert exams - that includes three compulsory subjects (English, Maths, Irish) and four optional subjects (I personally chose Art, History, Business and German, but there are way more different subjects you can choose). The Junior Cert is nowhere near as important as the Leaving Cert - it's basically just preparation for the Leaving Cert, but Junior Cert results aren't important at all and they're always forgotten about. Leaving Cert results are important as they usually determine the college courses you can get into, but the results from the Junior Cert won't have any influence on the students. Hope this helps!

You still have to do them on paper though, and you can't use any pencil or coloured biro. Also you have to precisely label ALL of your work. Fuckin' wreckheads...

It's especially funny watching this video as someone who went to primary and part of secondary school in Ireland before finishing high school in the US. There are aspects of the US education system that are better, like not having to memorize entire texts just a standardized test and like, multiple-choice tests. But the US is such a trash fire in other ways that it makes me nostalgic? for school in Ireland? I just watched a bunch of Alive-O videos to feel something.

There are two main exemptions to not have to do Irish as a subject. One of which is if you have not lived in Ireland for many years. The other exemption is if you have a learning difficulty such as dyslexia. So lucky for you, after moving to Ireland you should not have to do it!

Wouldn't be a real KZbinr if I didn't complain! I like when people offer different perspectives in the comments because I encourage healthy discussion, though I never implied that school "should be easy". Rather, I think the curriculum could be updated significantly so it's more fit for purpose in the modern world. I give credit where credit is due, but I'd just like to see progress being made in education is all!
