Chris Von Erich, the youngest brother, who also committed suicide wasn't included in this film - it would have been even more saddening to have seen the portrayal of his tragic life.

@@jimmygulics3944 to me it seems like an integral part of their tragic story, and seems like something they could easily implement into the script. It makes the film feel fictional.

@@jimmygulics3944yeah, leaving out Chris due to “time” was tragic in its own right. They could have included it in the film pretty easily imo.

I can understand why Chris was left out. He was very young while the older boys were going through the tough times. And with Chris very young age and the suicide issues already a big problem, just leave him out of it. There is way too much suffering already, May all the Adkisson boys R.I.P.

If you haven’t seen Dark Side of the Ring, I suggest that series. It’s a documentary series that details the tragedies in wrestling history. There’s a Von Erich episode, a 2 part Chris Benoit episode, New Jack, Owen Hart, etc. Hulu has all the seasons.

As someone who grew up in Texas, having to wake up before the sun arose, and having to drive an hour and a half to the sportatorium every Saturday morning I can appreciate this review. As someone who was told to sit down and be quiet as my parents sat down and talked to Kerry about business, I can appreciate this review. As someone who got to sit on Kerrys lap as we all had lunch and laughed and ate. I can appreciate this review. As a child who finally got to get up alongside the ring and get my picture taken with Kerry and Kevin to show all my friends at school. I can appreciate this review. As a 43-year-old man now whonhas waited almost 32 years for a movie / TV show/series on the von erics to actually come to light. I can't believe I'm finally here watching someone give an amazing in-depth and what seems to be a heartfelt review about the Von Eric family. I have been all over the United States since my family left Texas in the mid-90s It has been really hard to even find a single person who remembers the von Erichs other than Kerry Von Eric when he was the Texas Tornado. I've been alone in my admiration and remembrance of them, most of my life I will be there on December 22nd with my World Class Championship Wrestling t-shirt and my Bad Street USA hat watching The Iron Claw with a full heart I'll try not to cry too much.
@bobcobb365411 ай бұрын
I was a wrestling fan in Texas when the Von Erichs were coming up, and it was no exaggeration, they were straight up rock stars in the mid-late 80s. And Fritz’s promotion, World Class Championship Wrestling was a key innovator in creating the broadcasting style that all of wrestling eventually adopted. While I’m sure a lot didn’t make it into the movie, it’s kind of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. I initially thought it would have worked as maybe a 10-episode miniseries, but including all this family’s tragedies would have made it very difficult to watch for most audiences.

A lot of wrestling fans that weren't from Texas won't know much of the von Erichs, because before the WWF was such a nationwide juggernaut, there was a patchwork of individual organizations ("territories") that belonged to a cartel called the National Wrestling Alliance. The WWF was originally the regional territory thst covered New York, Philadelphia, etc- Boston to DC. The von Erich's territory was called World Class Championship Wrestling, and it was centered around Dallas. You usually didn't see another area's wrestling on local TV- but World Class and the von Erichs were so big that they could've broken out nationally like the WWF under the right circumstances, and their TV was on in other areas.

I can't wait to see this film. I'm from Massachusetts and grew up watching WCCW. I don't know how anyone who was an 80s wrestling fan doesn't know the Von Erich story. Triumph and Tragedy the story of World Class Championship Wrestling is a great doc on the WWE Network/ Peacock. There were six brothers total, and the oldest, Jack, died very young of an accidental electrocution.

This is during the golden era of the pro wrestling territories where Harley Race, Ric Flair, The Missing Link, Bruiser Brody, Kamala and The Fabulous Freebirds had many classic wrestling feuds against the Von Erich Boys. Fritz Von Erich was the tough patriarch of the family that has many tragic deaths linked to the world of pro wrestling.

I saw the preview and I gotta say it looks well casted. Efron is a bit bigger than Kevin was but he has his mannerisms down pretty well. He even talks the way Kevin did. I saw them cut a promo in the preview and the guy who played David sounds just like him. Kerry was the biggest by far. He was even in the WWE in the late 80s as the Texas Tornado. I heard however that they didn't tell Chris's story and if it's true than that's a shame. If you're going to make a movie about the Von Erichs than Chris's story needs to be told as well. The guy who plays Fritz looks just like him. And they even had n older brother as well who died at between six and eight years old. It was an accident he got electrocuted and died. Before David was born. This movie is really gonna be upsetting to the ppl who don't the story of this family which is 100% truth. I hope. But with the great casting I believe it will draw ppl in. Get ready for a rough ride.

I like Vision Quest because it is a more scaled-back wrestling movie. The protagonist is not shooting for something as ambitious or a state, national, or Olympic title. He drops weight, dangerously so, so that he can take on one rival. That's it. It has great performances, a fantastic soundtrack, and a grounded screenplay that makes the film feel more realistic and less "Hollywood."

I was at the premiere in dallas. As a texan that grew up with wccw the movie was a 6 out of 10. The pace of the film was extremely fast time stamps would have helped with all the major time jumps. A more in depth look at why Lance was brought in instead of a flash sequence would have been better and the fact that Chris von eric was left out was very distasteful. The few scenes of the actual wrestling was all over the place with the camera work on some scenes. The gentleman playing fritz was amazing the person playing flair just pure trash the film is decent but not great A24 could have done better. The film is a solid 6.
