Based on Harris’s discussion on the thinking Muslim on Islamic Finance, it seems as though he’s changed his view on Islamic banks, HPPs etc.

Interest (riba) is any contractual benefit for the lender. The "Islamic" bank is making a profit by selling the house at a higher price, and that's a benefit for the lender. Therefore, that's interest
@sunset2.004 жыл бұрын
twisted logic . interest is not benifit.
@mohdfarhan5255Ай бұрын
Incorrect. Cash flow due to interest are not know and change through time, hence the cash flow are not clear in the contract, making it oppressive and haram. While Islamic banker will buy the house and rent it or sell it at higher price due to the renting service they provide, and the price in the contract will never change (unlike interest). My car installment for example, never change for 5 years already, fixed in the contract. Im from Malaysia btw and our Islamic banking are pretty syariah compliance. Islamic bank here make profit from trading and loan fee, which is fixed and clear in the contract, unlike interest.

I am glad that Harris Irfan explains around minute 5:00 - 6:00 that the cash flows of the halal and the haram loan can be exactly the same. So why would Allah really care which one you use?
@xcorpionxyed20783 жыл бұрын
He didn't mention exactly the same, he says can look the same, but they aren't the same

@@xcorpionxyed2078 listen again at 5:30, Harris Irfan say "cash flows look exactly the same". In any case the Islamic bank is charging for the time value of money like any bank. The difference is the Islamic bank does the purchase and sell-back of the property, while a conventional bank takes a lien on the property. So why would Allah care? Riba was really about financial exploitation of poor illiterate debtors sold into slavery by moneylenders at the time of the prophet.

@@alonsomoseley8738 Riba is prohibited, and there is lots of colourful debate about what was meant by riba. Modernists dont agree that all interest = riba.
@alonsomoseley87384 жыл бұрын
@k A In the Qur'an it states that all sins can be forgiven through repentance. The key question is can riba be avoided? Can you open a bank account which doesn't have riba? Buying bonds with interest is Haram so why buy in the first place? Forgiveness can be given but to remain sincere you have to take a proactive approach and avoid getting yourself into a situation where riba arises as opposed to not changing your methods and just paying out the riba when it arises. IsA that helps clarify the situation?
