I'm glad they are keeping T.Rex and Trike in officials aswell, honestly I feel like they'd never really be a problem as long as they are hard to grow and are slower than the majority of the roster. Though Dondi said Rex has a really fast run that would burn out it's stam quicker while having a slower run for travel so idk.

If you actually take the past 4-5 years of the isles development, and lay out all the new things they've added....it ain't much. Considering every update is a 2 steps forward and 1 back approach, you can't really convince me the game has made that much progress. People will defend this game relentlessly, and I was one of those people, but I can't be anymore. It feels like whatever vision they had for this game has changed several times. Every time you have a change of vision, it can dramatically kill any momentum this game had, and considering they just dealt with a full recode, you can't be changing your roadmaps on the fly like they've been doing. Priorities are completely out of wack. The game performs poorly for most players on a variety of PCs. There's little to actually do in the game. Key mechanics clash with each other to such devastating effect, like how migrations and nesting don't mix very well. They've changed maps which to me was a huge red flag that they couldn't figure out what they wanted. Spiro wasn't great but it's size made 100 player servers possible, gateway is too big and too chaotic. There's no tutorial for the game, which considering there was one in legacy means it can't be that hard to program. The new player experience is awful, and this was a big reason why a bunch of people refunded the game. When you take off the rose tinted goggles, you start to see the big issues with this game. Yes it's unique, yea it's doing something no one else has done before. But that's not an excuse to be a shit game. And the worst part is these issues are fixable. But instead of taking a year to fix the underlying issues Afterthought wants to advertise new playables for players to drool over so they forget the game has underlying issues. I get it, dinos got 200-300 animations or whatever, but no one will care if your core gameplay has holes in it and the new player experience is so bad that you'll never surpass 12k concurrent players on Steam again. For Christ sakes the steam page isn't even updated...LEGACY HAS BEEN DEAD FOR OVER 5 YEARS AND THAT'S WHAT'S BEEN ON YOUR STEAM PAGE. IN FACT YOUR NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE IS SO BAD THAT PLAYERS DONT EVEN KNOW THE VERSION THEY INSTALLED WHEN BUYING IS THE WRONG VERSION OF YOUR GAME. This game has just become a joke like every devlog is a slap in the face for players who have been here since legacy.

Does anyone else have some weird fps drops? I never had it before and no other game has it but recently whenever i play the isle i get very regular fps drops. Game runs smoothly always between 70-110fps and every couple of seconds my fps drop to like 10 for a milisecond then back to above 70. Its very annoying. I tried literally everything now and nothing has worked. It really made me stop playing the isle.

To me it should've been allo+kentro instead of rex+trike. Maybe I missed something but I thought the point was to add dino's gradually in weight classes, our last big land carnivore was cera's release and that's 1.3 tons while rex is about 6x that size...Herbi's now have 2 apex land dino's and currently we still don't have a solid way of fighting Stego's unless it's a huge coordinated group or HIGHLY skilled carni players. Also when Allo comes out cera is essentially binned by the playerbase, there's literally no reason to play it since a cera group is in no ways gonna win against a group of allo's close to double their weight class they really either really need to nerf allo's stam/run speed or give cera a buff. Also apply this to rex as well, a group of sub rexes will probably demolish a cera group unless again they nerf rex speed or buff cera. I'm partly happy we're getting new carni's but I feel the same issue's from legacy is just gonna repeat again, the reason legacy had so many apexes was due to packing/mixpacking, if you were solo you will guarantee get bodied by any groups that see you and the reason people chose apexes was because it was the only reliable way a solo player could handle groups of small/mid tiers but then the counter response from those is to also just play apexes and the cycle just keeps going. I don't see how it's gonna be any diff with rex, unless we get server caps of rex then you're just gonna have to deal with getting swarmed by them and if you put server caps then no one wants to play because they're denied from a dinosaur. we'll see how and if they address or if it's just ''fuck it we ball''

from what I remember, the reason Rex + Trike are being added is so that they can see the impact those creatures have on the rest of the roster. Cause there's no chance in hell a full grown rex is keeping itself fed unless the rest of the server is playing Stego + Trike.

@sdes-o I suppose but again why not start on a smaller scale? I'm not saying add another small tier herbi/carni but work on the higher ends of mid tier dinos basically before apex tier. Adding Rex and trike could really screw up the roster this early cuz the only competition for a full grown rex is either other rexes or trikes (perhaps stego and mayyyybe deino if the rex is really dumb and doesn't play on land) and knowing this community no one wants to coin flip a fight for a 7h growth time so everyone's just gonna form rex packs to give better odds in fights. I think one major problem as well I didn't mention is the map size is still too large, rex is supposedly gonna be slow as hell so it's not catching most small/mid tiers unless it gets a jump on them, you're gonna rely pretty much on dibbles, stegos, trikes and occasionally a not full grown deino on land. Assuming even 10/100 people on a server get a full grown trike/stego and are all on at the same time it's likely all of them will be grouped so it'd be suicide to even try as a solo rex. To me rex is gonna be painful to keep alive since you're gonna be close to starving all the time as a full grown adult which I suppose is intentional but doesn't make it anymore fun to play with. Gateway's terrains are also terrible, it's very hill covered (yes we do have SP and NE plains but NE is almost always empty) so traversing as rex doesn't sound pleasant, we need more open woodland/forests that's flat but gives cover to hide for rex. Idk maybe it won't be as bad but I can't help but be skeptical asf after legacy

@shekstein8396 I mean, that's fair. Also another thing I remember seeing... Kissen, I think, saying, was that Rex and Trike form the "power ceiling" of The Isle. There was mention of some type of change regarding the terrain issue, but I can't remember where. Mightve been during Kissen's portion of the devblog. Also, I, personally, think Apex lives *should* be hard, for their entireties. Let people work to reach the "peak" of power. And once Elders are implemented, that's going to be everyone's goal on whatever dino. Wouldn't make sense if that was easy either. Also, from what I've seen, Rex's trot speed is... decent. So Rex players will have to heavily rely on roaming through areas others pass through, which also give it a decent chance at ambushing. Also, more on the "apexes should be hard to grow": if the apexes are really tough to survive on, won't that naturally keep the populations down? Midtier dinos for the more average players, apexes for the hardcore ones, essentially, since growing apexes could end up being a bragging right. Basically my thoughts.

@sdes-o for me I don't mind usually if the game is hard but losing a 7h wait just cuz for one particular hour or two you see NOTHING to hunt and starve isn't engaging or fun it's just punishing you for not having foresight for player count and distribution across the map that you have no control over. Again that's also accounting even if you see a herbi you best hope that trike is alone. Regarding the population of rexes you are right that it will keep full grown adult populations low but rex is unique in that its designed to be the apex in almost all of it life cycle from juvi to sub to adult, so I would guess even if it was hard to keep adult rexes going for long it wouldnt stop people trying because they know the second they get to the 2+ ton range most carnivores are gonna shit themselves. I'm not saying rex is the slowest thing, I've heard as well the trot speed is good but I don't see an adult rex catching dilos, carnos, cera's, maia's, omni etc only way for these to get caught is the player isn't paying attention or afk. Dibbles would be the easiest for rex adults but if trike exists then why play dibble and be a happy meal on legs for a rex?

@shekstein8396 I get where you're coming from with starving not being fun, but to me it seems like the easiest way to keep a population in check. Cause 75% might die before young adult stage, with 20% dying before hitting full adult to lack of resources. I'm just saying that spending that much time on something that hard to survive on is probably going to make Midtiers more popular, since people won't want to put in that time. I can see where you're coming from, and can agree, but at the same time, having apexes be too easy to keep alive is an issue itself (i.e. legacy). Honestly, though, we really need to wait and see how they end up handling it before further saying how things should be.

Rex and trike are more so experimental things and they definitely won’t be easy to grow,deinoS and stego can definitely play a role in population control and so can both rex itself and trike+many other dinosaurs.

Austro is beneficial to the roster as it adds an extra slot between tiers of strength for both the base roster and semi-aquatic roster,I think it may also come with wading but that’s just a speculation.
