Look at all the keyboard warriors talking trash about this guy's accent and way of speaking, not to mention his technique. This guy's an Israeli special forces colonel, if you think he doesn't know what he's talking about then you live under a rock. Practical shooting sport techniques are mirrored in SOF because the fundamentals of shooting are the same regardless of whether one shoots at paper or not. In fact, they differ quite extensively from this "Israeli" method (which resembles a 1970's FBI technique-set) in nearly every manner, from the turtled head to the widely based feet.

I have an M&P Shield 9 and for a YEAR I have watched more than 50 KZbin videos and read articles because I could NOT figure out how to hold my Shield, especially my left hand. Nothing made sense. Two thumbs forward was not intuitive, covering the front trigger guard took extra time to find the proper grip and my left hand kept interfering with my trigger finger. This is THE FIRST video on grip that meets with my common sense and it works PERFECTLY with my Shield 9. Thank you Colonel Gat!

Just had the overlocking thumb of the support hand explained by an instructor; try it. It immediately unified the two hands into a stronger cylinder, and seems to negate any trigger finger rotational effects. Glock 9mm recoil was entirely trivial, even with bent arms, and the fashion of extending the support thumb towards the target just seems silly, particularly as it tends to lock that arm's elbow into full extension, negating the natural shock absorption of stiff but bent arms. The thumb trick is meant to help defeat attempts to disarm you, but also keeps your thumbs clear of the slide and release. It takes little practice, and works instantly. I don't care about stance and other differences, but this feels superior and targets show it.

@matthewtemkin47267 жыл бұрын

@runelord377 жыл бұрын
Its a fact. You are relaxing the pressure exerted on the rear of the weapon by readjusting the thumbs with a lighter lateral pressure. This allows you to guide your point quicker and stronger, while also not using the thumbs as a muscle group to put front muzzle flip more into the equation. Its clearly superior.

I appreciate the sincerity of the man instructing. Whatever works, however in my training, we did not place the body totally square on, you expose more of your body to enemy fire coming at you if you do so. The even balance is important, the stability in the hands and locked thumb position I was also shown. However, if you are right-handed, your left hand instinctively goes up as you draw your gun with your right meeting at an apex junction. Allowing you to utilise instinctive shooting. If you have to wait around and aim it's too late. Repetition, Repetition, Repetition. I'm sure the guy is a good shot too. It's like the shootouts of the wild west, the old gunslingers didn't stand square on, they stood side on, less of you to hit. If you are behind cover fine. But I really appreciate the sincerity of this man and his willingness to help others. Don't mean to sound condescending in any way.
@MrBigblue76 жыл бұрын
My guess is he's probably been in a lot more firefights then you have. Don't mean to sound condescending...but these guys have been fighting for their survival for 100 years, they're not going to use something that hasn't worked for them.

I've had my share. and you should expose less. Probably not as much as him. But you dont stand square on without cover, period.
@urbandefencechannelu.d.c64386 жыл бұрын
And the fact that he is exposing training on an open forum, possibly available to his enemies. Do you think that wise?
@urbandefencechannelu.d.c64386 жыл бұрын
Also your body is going to be in a dynamic state, one foot in front of the other. Maybe foot positioning was not a point of his teaching in this. Because you are not going to be standing still for too long, ie such as room entry, you are going to be in a walking state sometimes when you shoot. I really admire him for his sincerity. Whatever works for him and keeps him alive.
@urbandefencechannelu.d.c64386 жыл бұрын
And in shooting they teach to shoot at the ""centre of the seen mass"" so if there is less of a mass to see the odds of you getting shot back at are reduced, it is just common surface area logic. Don't make yourself an easier target for your enemy. As you will also notice there are some other guys on here that have obviously received some good training and are ex-military, such as myself, most are in agreeance that the stance is wrong and in a firefight situation, there are few times you will shoot from a fixed position. Maybe it is in the instructors best interests to not publicly display how you should stand properly as his enemies will be easier to hit.

I have more faith in the knowledge and experience of the IDF special forces than spurious comments from the peanut gallery. And for those who want to respond anonymously off-topic regarding “occupation forces” why don’t you think about how it feels being surrounded by millions of people who spew nothing but hatred and death for you and who started a war against you with vastly superior forces thinking they were going to wipe you off the face of the earth without mercy and then oh, they lost! Oh give me land back. Oh you are occupying us. Oh you won’t give us open access to your economy and cities. What a crock. I have been as a tourist to Israel and have nothing but great respect for the fortitude of the people in face of massive and continuing adversity. And here’s a message to those who operate on the other side, if you want peace and respect stop the bombings, rockets and killings of innocent Israelis that culminate in the responses that deliver back to you in spades what have invited to be visited upon you. And it’s so interesting how “the Wall” has worked in just about 100% eliminating the previously frequent bombings isn’t it? If you want to fight step out from behind your civilian populations that you know are going to take a hit in responses and fight face to face. But no. You want only to cause death of innocents on your side in order to build hatred and create propaganda for your twisted cause.

Samuel Iam - the border 'protests' are just a step up from the invasion tunnels that the PLO and Hamas use to infiltrate Israel and kill its citizens. The 'protesters' are armed and seek to destroy the border fence and invade Israel. They believe they will go to Heaven if they die in the process - a delusion fostered by the imans and madrassas from their earliest years. They use indiscriminate rocket attacks, burning tyres and fire kites - it is not a peaceful protest under any definition. The corruption, incompetence and waste under Hamas leadership is blamed on the Jews and the US. That's why the US is withdrawing funding. Islam is not a religion of peace and never has been. Deceit, denial, deflection. sharia and jihad - the 5 Pillars of Islam.

the wrap-around with cross thumb is the original way to hold a handgun as was taught before by Col. Jeff Cooper but, I think, the advent of competitive practical shooting evolved a modified way of holding handgun with the left and right thumbs lying on tandem and pointing down range- no more the thumbs crossing each other. The cross-thumb is also what I learned in holding revolvers; while in pistols the thumbs is lying on tandem with each other and the strong hand thumb pressing down as leverage the thumb safety for the 1911 which, I guess, is the gun where the wrap-around technique of gripping a pistol was applied.

no disrespect lady, but shooting in the groin first, then to the chest, safety off, flinch in horror? Who taught you all that? Shooting the groin does not make somebody stop shooting - two shots in the chest will. Flinch in horror?? Wow... just wow... Yikes, that looks like such an unnatural position and grip I can’t imagine that being efficient and useful. Looks more like a pose to try to look like a badass. Thumbs up and holding the pistol “as hard as you can” do not make for an accurate shooting form.

Is it true Israeli carry condition 3 without a round in chamber? and if so why? thank you..
@christokellerman398 ай бұрын
Hi not sure if you have found an answer in the last 5 years but my training is based off the Israeli system. The reason is cloae quarters hand to hand fighting. If there is a fight and attacker gets your firearm he will pull the trigger as a first reaction. If you know your weapon chamber is empty you can attack without worrying about first shot. We have trained and tested this extensively and the outcome speaks for itself. If you are skilled in drawing a weapon adding a cocking to the draw will not any substantial time to it. The problem comes in with cowboys on a range that want to look good for Instagram and have never been in an active shooter or close quarters fight with a loaded firearm. We've had this debate many times and I only give my input. It's still the person carrying the firearm that has to decide where their priority lies. Hope that helps. Stay safe

I know these guys are professional and all but Im sorry, this method is simply inferior. That's all there is to it. It's funny, the Israeli method teaches chamber-empty carry because most of their people aren't extensively trained enough to "handle the weapon safely". Then they create an overly complicated method for grip and stance that involves a bunch of wierd crap that is not natural to human body mechanics. A method that requires a crap-ton of training.

Where did you get this information about the lack of training to the point of mishandling weapons? I'd like to see the references so I can learn more about it.

"handle the weapon safely" What a joke. I did this kind of training in Israel. We have WAY more live-fire training and combat experience than most armies. Certainly way more anti-terror training and experience too.

the stance provides an opponent with max target surface. This is obviously detrimental in a fire fight no matter range to target
@Kenneth456 жыл бұрын
I take it you're a "weaver" proponent? Switch to Isosceles and you'll notice an instant improvement because your target becomes your natural point of aim unlike in weaver where you're forcing your body to turn to aim at the target. Great for paper targets on a flat range, crap for anything more dynamic. Get out of the 80's...

@J Calhoun lol I already have thought bout that I got a secret spot for it but I always I mean always have a gun on me i keep my lil ruger 380. With a lasermax an Hogue grips an extended 10rd extra mag on me always day/night even at work an even in the shower it's an arms reach away an that's just my insurance for me to get to the big guns in the car or house but u are rite fam them damn muggers huh smh
@kali76026 жыл бұрын
@J Calhoun my 5.56 greentip rounds are certainly over penetrating any target I hit an ive seen 3 people get hit with the same 9mm bullet at the same time so I guess u can say that 9mm is a very hot round an tends to over penetrate at times too depending on the rounds your shooting an target your hitting
@kali76026 жыл бұрын
@J Calhoun the 9mm more than likely was a 124g. Fmj but Its clearly obvious that 380. An 9mm is two different rounds but same diameter 380. Is also known as the 9mm short an I'm not no expert but I am damn near better shot than my old man an my father is a marine corps sniper 16yrs an a expert marksman an is extremely knowledgeable with pretty much any weapon out there but check out the glock website an u will see that there is a lot of cool 380. Guns that are not available to no one but the government bcuz that little round is extremely effective an many test prove it a lot of people sleep on that round but honestly it's not the round that counts it's shot placement ion care if it's a pellet gun u put that pellet in the rite placement your target will fall

First sorry to Col Gat for the negative comments made on this thread by close minded folks. I dont agree with everthing the Col says, but much of his mechanics in grip are same as Col Cooper developed 70 years ago but refined. It is definitely a form of Opposable grip that we has developed even further with the Gas Pedal Grip. Props to Col Gat.

The instructor puts his arm directly in front of the firearm while explaining the grip (bad) Then he tells him to put his finger on the trigger and sways in front of the muzzle. Not good at all. Good thing the guy with the gun sweeps a bit right when he does that.

+Barbara Specteriffic : ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood are the OPPOSITE of Israel. The fact you try equate them is utter nonsense. Which you would know if you weren't actually a bot (as your profile shows). Fortunate;y, Islam is a superstition that doesn't match the archeology of the region and once everyone learns the truth about it then Islam will wither and die - but Israel will be around until the Sun runs out of hydrogen.

As a Law Enforcement Officer, most shooting(95%) take place within 21 feet. Of that 95%, 51% are less than 10 feet. You don't have time to do all of this positioning. Draw fast, grip hard, point, not aim, pull trigger until threat is down. The video positions are best for approaching individuals and you have time to do as they have instructed. Survival is the name of the game and you do what is necessary to survive. Training is the key. Styles change every few years, but learning to shoot quick, up close and accurate is the key no matter how you stand, whether you are breathing or not, squatting or having a perfect sight picture. Survive. Street fighting is different than shooting in a war. Approx. 51% of officers are shot above their vest.

You just explained why the officers have a fifteen percent hit ratio.
@DJ369-Miami6 жыл бұрын
Their approach is based on actual gunfights. Perfect in every case? Probably not. Superior to what most learn from so called firearm instructors? Absolutely. Hint: Paper targets don't shoot back. Standing up straight like a statue with your arms stretched out....you won't live long buddy.

Tabula Raza yeah thats why we position our feet weaver nowadays. It blades our stance to help if armor isn’t in play and allows for dynamic movement (ie diving behind shit or changing direction to avoid getting popped) if need be. In CQB this guy would take up the whole hallway, both getting hit and delaying team advancement. Don’t even get me started on thumb position and offhand grip with this one. Always happy to see others techniques but there seems to be nothing worthy of adopting here.
@Musicsson5 жыл бұрын
Humble question: this position "like on a horseback" seems more unstable to me, compared to one foot in front one back... especially considering that some guns have strong recoil. Second thought: standing parallel to the target makes you a larger target for your enemy... right? Any thoughts from pros on this?
@g.m.42995 жыл бұрын
Musicsson The reason this position is taught is because often body armor issued to police and other security forces has a gap in the side. The shooter is squared of against the threat. If the shooter is right handed and stands with the left foot on the front, the heart side is closest to the threat, presenting the armpit and left ribs, unprotected by body armor. While this method may not be “popular” in the US, it’s based on trial and experience by IDF engaging in war since the beginning of the modern Israel state, not based on opinions from folks who shoot twice a year paper targets with their safe queens.....
