I didn’t think they’d ever be able to replace Denholm after he jumped out of the office window over irregularities with the pension fund. It’s pretty rare that a replacement matches up to the original, and when Douglas made his dramatic entrance at the funeral I thought “oh shit, they’re trying too hard.” But it turns out they knew exactly what they were doing, with this macho, self-centred, shallow, feckless, tyrannical, unstable, ignorant, loud mouthed, ultra-sexist, borderline insane character. Matt blends these qualities and portrays them to perfection, It works brilliantly.

Pure ridiculousness seems to be very difficult to pull off effectively without going too far. The best comedies, the ones I love and rewatch are those that crank the absurdity right up to the edge and balance there perfectly. Its great when you have a relatively mundane world or otherwise normal set of characters to truly contrast the mad ones against.

I absolutely adore Matt Berry's style of speech . Ive been imitating him since Dark Place.

I like how his suit makes his arm look like it's bending backwards when he points at the dead flies. Further proof he is in fact, an otherworldly being who knows what he's talking about.
