Tony and Trisha review Cruel Jaws and talk about why its the worst and most Italian of the Jaws movies. In this Podcast / Movie Review of what is often called Jaws 5 in some countries they will point out the awful day for night shots, an aquarium owner who looks like Hulk Hogan, and a shark that is mostly footage lifted from other Jaws rip offs.
A great white shark bred by the Navy as a killing machine is wreaking havoc in the sleepy tourist town of Hampton Bay. In the meantime, the mafia is involved with sleazy real estate investments, and send their thugs to keep a lid on the fact the residents are destined for clam chowder - Sea World owner, Dag, and his dolphins come to the rescue to save Hampton Bay from both the mob and military covert operatives.

Italians still didn't record sound while filming at the time for the most part. In part because the actors where often from all around the world, speaking their native language. For example Fistful of Dollars had German, English, Spanish and Italian speaking actors.

(13:35) Yup! I'm not Italian but I have lived in Italy and I have gone back to solo travel, and Italians don't like to utilize A/C. I know it has to do with the cost of energy in Italy compared to other developed and industrialized nation-states, but culturally speaking, most Italians will REFUSE to turn on the A/C because it's not "naturale." I'm with Tony. Screw that, turn that A/C on max blast especially if you're trying to sleep at night in the Mediterranean heat during the summer months of May-August.

Sorry for the double comment, I wanted to comment on the whole "Italian low quality movies" thing, since it so happens I am kind of a movie buff and I'm Italian. What most aficionados from other countries don't seem to realise is the vast majority of these movies were made really cheap, really fast, just to make some money. Through most of the 20th century in Italy genres like horror, sci-fi and exploitation comedies(aka sexy comedies) were considered like the lowest kind of cinema. Not even B-movies, just a bit better than pornography basically. The directors and the actors knew this and they worked on 3-4 movies a month, reusing and recycling everything, sometimes even working on a movie in the morning and on a different one in the afternoon. The mentality was that of drive-in movies in the 50-60 in the US: make a cheap movie with a catchy title or interesting theme, sell it to the movie theaters and go on. They made a profit and went on to the next movie. That's one reason why a lot of them are dubbed: it's faster than dealing with mixing audio levels and similar stuff, just synch a track with the video and you are golden. " Serious" movies were treated completely differently of course, with big productions and masterful techniques. Main genres were neo realism through the 50's, so called "rose tinted" neo-realism, where while being realistic the comedic factor and a happier ending made them more palatable, in the 60's, social commentary movies, especially in the 70's and 80's the so called "cinema d'impegno" with heavy political themes and often a background in real life events( a lot of movies on political corruption, mafia crimes and social injustices, most of them incredibly depressing tbh). Among these genres there were also isolated cases like literary adaptations of famous novels, Sergio Leone's masterpieces, Mario Monicelli's anti-intellectual comedies, Pasolini's surreal works and many others. There are also a vast number of movies made in a regional dialect, which while being pretty good movies are practically impossible to understand for a foreigner since a lot is lost in translation and some of the themes and plots make sense only in that regional context. (that is sadly true even in italian literature: a number of great writers and poets are completely unknown outside of Italy since they only wrote in their regional dialects..). Hope this helps anyone interested in italian cinema

The bad underwater puppet AND the animatronic that can be seen on the surface are both from ultimo squalo (aka Last Shark or Last Jaws). The underwater miniture is laughable but the main animatronic is really impressive and resembles a real shark more than any of the Bruce´s from Jaws 1-4. Last Jaws / Ultimo Squalo is good (unlike Jaws 5) and I also think that Last Jaws is better than Jaws 3 + 4. Jaws 5 uses Stock footage of documentaries or stolen footage from JaAws 1-3 / Last Jaws without any original footage of a shark. There obvioulsy was never a shark fin or an entire animatronic made for this piece of crap.
