We are building the Italian Job coach using an original Harrington Legionnaire as used in the film as the original chassis was scrapped after an accident and various mechanical break downs with the sum of it parts used for spares so nothing of the original coach exists apart from the registration and log book.

I did have the website running nicely with flash code (even the video) then about three years ago flash was dropped over security issues so had to recode everything in HTML so I am still trying to catch up as I have over 25TB of video on tape to recode….

I really want one of these! Going for my test to work for stagecoach soon with this being my ultimate goal! I’m gonna buy one, build it up, take it to events and then convert it and live in it travelling the world!

My father worked on the original conversion of the coach rear doors for the film, . He worked for a company called Coachcraft, in Croydon, Surrey. I'd love to know how you get on, as would he I'm sure. I'm not sure how much of the work he remembers now, but please do let me know if you think he's knowledge would be of any use.

The coach is now been restored by my brother David we are the Self Preservation Society also used by others. I bought my brother out in 2013 so he could concentrate on the coach, we hope it will be finished for the 2029 anniversary as he needs to finish a large building project by next year...

This coach is not the original as you probably know the original was scrapped in the mid eighties, we were keen to track it down in the early 90’s but discovered it had been used as a race car transporter then later a traveler bus but at some point the chassis was badly damaged in several places after a series of accidents beyond repair so was broken up for spares so presumed all the documents went with it but this appears not to be the case as the registration has reappeared on a different bodied coach which uses the same make of chassis so it seems you can do anything today regarding registrations transfer. Since 1979 I have been building film minis and apart from one white mini no other film vehicle are known to survive although three minis were apparently brought back to the UK other vehicle whereabouts are also not known that was until 2004 when the Aston Martin appeared and since 2017 nearly all of the other vehicles have either been recreated from similar old cars or originals have been found, this probably has something to do with the DVLA changes since 2001 when you can register any new or old registration onto a different vehicle.

It is an original Harrington Legionnaire body on the Bedford val chassis. Allot of coach builders used this chassis fitted with their own designed body... a similar coach bodied chassis has been painted in the film colours and at a glance passes for the film coach so we can be seen using it until we have our original Harrington Legionnaire restored...
