We have a big Italian community in Toronto. I miss the old ways. The gardens, the tomato sauce making, wine making and close families.

0:36 OMG! This is 86th street near the Benson theatre. RIGHT BEHIND THE GUY IN THE GREY SHIRT - ACROSS the street was a NEWSSTAND. I have been looking for a picture of THAT NEWSSTAND for YEARS ! I used to buy my comic books and MAD magazines from there in the 1970s !!

Yes! I’m blessed to have a little Italian friend that I care for. He is from Brooklyn New York. I love the accent to much, so cool just to listen to him talk. He has so much personality, is so sweet and loving and knows everything there is to know about music.

Late 50s early 60s when the blacks migrated to the north, many of the areas in Brooklyn (fort green, bed Stuy, east NY, coney Island, etc) were occupied by Italian Americans. Interesting part about the blacks living in bed Stuy around the 40s-50s actually came from Harlem (lookinğ for bigger residential space) so the Harlemites assimilated in Brooklyn and became Brooklynites

Which are the streets and neighborhoods?
@stellajohnson5301 Жыл бұрын
I think this is very stereotyped. I'm Italian and my neighborhood, Flatlands, was not like this at all. We owned houses, kept the neighborhood clean and tidy, respected our neighbor's property and privacy, respected community property, worked hard, studied hard .... and then moved out to Westchester County or Long Island.

Many have achieved the American dream.. Became citizens and gradually assimilated in American culture. There's a movie called Brooklyn taken place in the 40s and the Italians wanted to better themselves by seeking new land ...what is known as Long Island and he moved and settled with this Irish gal. Natural progression in American society for the ones who want to climb the ladder.

@@AB-fm2zn Yep Italians have been for the most part successful in the USA Here is an interesting fact . According to a university of Chicago study Italian Americans have the lowest rate of welfare/Public assistance use of any ethnic group. Not that that is something to be admired in modern America LOL
@michaelcostello2592 Жыл бұрын
That's everywhere n every culture....today's all gentrification n mixed across America .....there's no more ethnic hoods....even newcomer hoods like Mexican, pr, dr ,n Jamaican will be thing of past in couple years
