1:50 - A look back at how ITV in the South and South East began, 1:55 - Then, how Television South is born in '82... 1:59 - And the South will rise again as Meridian will take charge.

It was sad to see the Southern Television Ident disappear at the very end of its franchise run on December 31 1981 along with ATV and Westward

The Logos remaining for the itv regions is all just: ITV logo Text. Isn't it true tho.

Here n Dublin we got ulster television and BBC Nothern Ireland. I had forgotten The UTV ident at 2:42 but seeing it again brings back memories, as does the UTV ident at 2:52 .

BBC and ITV are now shown all across Ireland as far as I know.

There were many more Tyne Tees logos before 1996 notably the rivers logo circa 1988.
@CryOfTheCelts22 жыл бұрын
Indeed there was the 'Flowing Rivers' ident, then the generic 'Get ready' , also, in the early nineties, there was a prism effect ident (similar to the grey/silver background), but on a black background. - Always remember this as the IVC background was black and white striped. And finally, not forgetting the mirror-esque TTTV logo (before Channel 3 North East briefly took over in 1996)

Very strange how the original 1987 version of the second TVS logo was cut out of this.

I have a copy of this in full quality on DVD - but who is that actor doing the knife-throwing in the TTTV section? I recognise him - he played Dr Crippen in a TV musical of the Crippen story (entitled "Belle", if I recall correctly) circa 1961.

Is it possible to find TWW's farewell anywhere???
@Tripp19937 жыл бұрын
Go to Soundcloud and search, "Come to an End."
@Tripp19934 жыл бұрын
Transdiffusion Broadcasting System has an audio recording of TWW's farewell, which was John Betjeman giving the eulogy for the Welsh station; who knows why it lost? Maybe it had connections to London? Maybe it wasn't "Welsh"? Maybe it had angered Harold Wilson? Who knows? If you find it, please listen to it. It's Sir John Betjeman's well, epilogue to the station. Before you listen to it, I will tell you that after a farewell special, "All Good Things..." came a commercial break. But after the windshield wiper break bumper appeared one last time, Sir John Betjeman's epilogue began. And I hope you like it.

What happened to TVAM? Also WWN (Wales West & North), which later merged with TWW.
@Channeleven234578910 жыл бұрын
TVAM: It was shut down and promptly replaced with GMTV (likely due to financial issues) WWN: Went down with TWW after HTV took over Wales' regional license.

TVam lost their franchise in the renewal round of 1991. It was awarded to GM TV who started on Jan 1st 1993.

WWN were a group that pressurised the ITA to create a franchise for North and West Wales. ITA never believed that this area could sustain a contractor as North Wales was receiving the Granada ABC service out of area and the West was mostly served by a Rediffusion cable service that was picking up a signal from Westward. The WWN people were adamant that they could make it work so eventually the ITA gave them a try. The ITA were proved right, the people of the North weren't bothered about having their aerials turned round and in the West, Rediffusion wouldn't change the head end from Westward. WWN failed and the ITA asked TWW to take it over, they did and came up with the identity Teledu Cymru TWW network for Wales. TWW lost the franchise to HTV for the 1968 licences. TWW owner, Lord Derby was furious that he had lost after doing the ITA a favour by buying WWN. He decided to sell the station to HTV early and walked away, there was no farewell programme because the station changed hands swiftly and before planned date.

How ironic the guy talking about how Drake's ship truly represents the west country, when his own snooty cut glass accent is the exact antithesis of the very same.

Peter Cadbury was good for Plymouth though and both the Plymouth studios, Westward and the BBC, sent many presenters up to London for the national channels because we speak so well.
