The only time that Bogie ever did a TV comedy sketch. He was totally in command and remember that this show was broadcast LIVE. What a treat that this kinescope exists.

I just l-o-v-e-d Rochester, and my opinion was that he made the radio show what it was!!! Oh, I must not forget the hilarious Dennis Day!!! Dennis was a marvelous singer, too!!!

This was 65 years ago,imagine that!!? To see Humphrey Bogart on television was quite a rarity,and it was fun to see Jack Benny,et al.I had forgotten about Bob Crosby,Bing's brother being on the show.Lucky Strike cigarettes,were " the Thing at the time"& and I have no doubt,that the company did score a " coup" having Mr.Bogart" advertise" for their tobacco product. Mr.Bogart was a smoker,tho,I do not know which brand he smoked? I have always enjoyed Humphrey Bogart's movies,especially," Casablanca" with Ingrid Bergman,my favorite movie,as he reminded me of my father,who bore quite a resemblance to Mr.Bogart.This was a" gem" of program to share with Americans' KZbin audience.Thank You.So Much,The Theatre of the Mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Happy 2019 New Year to You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bogart’s cigarette brand of choice was Chesterfield. They helped to kill him at only 57 year’s old in January of 1957.

Graywolff - And he only weighed 80 pounds. He continued to smoke, even on oxygen, and switched to filtered cigarettes. But , at that point, it didn't matter.

A rare glimpse at one of only two television performances by the incomparable Humphrey Bogart doing a funny comedic skit with Jack Benny. Bogart’s cigarette of choice was Chesterfield and they helped to kill him from esophageal cancer in January of 1957 just after his 57th birthday. As his good friend John Huston said at his funeral, “He is quite irreplaceable”.

How American culture has changed from the 1950’s. I’ve been listening to old Dragnet and Gunsmoke episodes interrupted by cigarette ads selling people on cigarettes. On Dragnet people are always offering each other cigarettes. On old TV shows including game shows the host like Gary Moore is smoking. They give cartons of cigarettes away as gifts or lighters or cigarette cases. Then it all stopped. I have rarely seen anyone smoking anywhere in 20 years. At the time they were telling people how safe their cigarettes were and doctor recommended. We learned differently later. Now 2021 they are doing the same with covid vaccines and anyone that questions how safe they are is demonized as a conspiracy nut.

Even though you weren’t a Jack Benny fan you appear to be in the minority and frankly I’ve never read about anyone disliking him. Getting Bogart on his show and in a comedy skit was a real coup for Benny and his producers. Since the show was live,, thank goodness this priceless program was preserved on Kinescope for future generations to enjoy..
