The hole-in-one premise, minus the talking squirrel, of course, actually happened in real life. Notorious cheapskate Fred MacMurray hit a hole-in-one and paid off his partner and caddies while marking a '2' on the scorecard. He figured it would be less expensive than paying for free drinks for the entire clubhouse. Freddie De Cordova, the director on 'My Three Sons' knew about the story and brought it to the writers of the Benny show when he directed Jack's program.
