This song brings back memories of when I was so depressed I didn't even have the energy to pray. I felt there was no point I was a waste and I just wanted to not exist anymore. I remember sitting on a park bench with tears falling down my face uncontrollably feeling hopeless. Then I recalled a minister saying sometimes you just have to say "I need your help". I remember using the little faith that I had left to utter those words in my head. Within minutes that spirit of depression was taken away. That's why when I heard this song and he says I don't have nobody else and I can't make it by myself the tears came streaming down my face again recalling that moment. I would've been dead a long time ago if it was up to me BUT GOD. Thanks for sharing this history.

Some years ago I was driving 3 of my aunts to a funeral. I had some cassettes of gospel music. I inserted one and it was, "I Can't Make by Myself ". This remind of my Big Mama & Big Daddy would take me to see the These gospel groups at the The Masonic Temple in Columbia S. C I really get now these songs kept my grand parent through the The injustice that they had gone through and we’re still going through living in a prejudice state,in the early 60s , 70s and before !! You know a lot has changed!! But it really hasn’t in the South , Blacks with the education background are not getting the proper salary!!! Oh there Not A lot of affordable housing that people live in and can afford and live clean!!! There’s so many areas of Columbia people are living in squalor!!!
