A nostalgic video produced in 1999 to launch "The Jaguar Difference" communication campaign. Features comments from many of Jaguar's senior executives at that time including the late Geoff Lawson, Jaguar's Chief Stylist from 1989 to 1999.
Archive footage of the XK8 (X100), XJ (X308) and the then new S-TYPE (X200).

Thank you Geoff Lawson for the X300. It was the best designed and most beautiful XJ6 since the series 1 of 1968.

@Ike N You are so right about the X308 being a bigger seller than the XJ40 and the X300. Jeremy Clarkson had one and he did a great job promoting its performance on "Top Gear". Speed and performance are the big seller for most motorists, so yes the X308's and or the XJR or anything with a V8 will be the most desired collectable. It's good to have the fastest car. It makes one feel good. Especially us males.

I just came home from buying my first Jaguar (2001 XJ8L X308) for $1000. The guys brother bought it as a lease trade-in, the makes me the fourth owner. I've always wanted one of these I never thought I would be able to get one let alone one in such good condition. I'm on the verge of tears just thinking about it. It's sitting in my garage right now. Thank you making such wonderful cars!

@Ike N Well X351 looks like mega Hyundai or Peugeot, so they löst +80% of their entire global XJ turnover because of this "Design". For sure X350 was a stunning Car. However modern Generation has no style and therefore want mass market so called luxury Cars like all germans etc. Jaguar sold it's identity for mass market products. Patient dead but company alive because of this Prostitution :-(

@Ike N I trust your word. Jaguar was messed up starting the X Type on a Ford Monde basis, cheap leather, fake wood and small Diesel engines. Followed by the S Type on the same low class level but an artificial retro design. Than step by step into "modern" Era. One useless Jaguar after the other...

My first experience of Jaguar was getting a lift, at the age of 5 in MK2. I fell in love then. The first Jaguar I owned was an XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 premium luxury and when I test drove it, it gave me the same feeling I had in the MK2. The XF stood out head and shoulders above the BMW and Audi offerings. I now own a 3.0ltr supercharged XJ portfolio X351 and that car is next level. There is literally nothing else like it on the road. It still embodies in it's design all the values expressed in the video, it is grace pace and space personified. My indie is Swallows Jaguar in Somerset and the relationship I've built with those guys is something I've never experienced in owning any other car, the pride they have in the cars and the work they do, and the care and support shown to the owners is second to none. I'm also a member of a few forums and have been away on weekends with other owners. A great community of like minded people.

Great video, nd nice to see Geoff Lawson, the new S-Type designer talking so passionately abut the new X-Type, which sadly he didn't live to see into production - but Geoff, S-Type R great legacy Sir....Thankyou !!!!

In a sense he missed the media and non jag enthusiasts bashing a great attempt at a small luxury car but if he was still alive today jaguar would still be jaguar

Those X300 and X308 XJ’s were low sleek and elegant. The personification of style. 2003 was the end of the real all steel Jag XJ’s. 2004 X350’s and on was generic aluminum crap.

Ike N Fair enough! Though, I really love my X358 (fake fender vents notwithstanding). I like the larger stance of the car. I have the long wheel base and it has been a reliable (thanks Ford) stately head turner. I get compliments all the time! Now the x351 is a different story all together! That is NOT a Jaguar!

You can blame that on the market. What else can you say when the majority of new car purchases are SUV's? The fault lies squarely with buyer taste and not with Jaguar and certainly not with tata who as i understand gave Jaguar free reign with design.

It would seem that Jaguar is now succeeding sales wise in the market place because they have dropped a lot of their traditional approach and are now producing cars just like Mercedes Benz and BMW for the masses. It seems to me that the future of the motor car industry is sanitization. Which in simple English terms means: “It has to look like others” At one time it would often be said about Jaguars that "you either love them or you hate them" However that translated to me always meant: "You either get it or you don’t" When I saw the very first XJ6 on the street, I was totally unaware it had been released or even coming. It was from a distance I spotted the car. I could not see any badges, but I knew it was a Jaguar. Why? Because I could see the history in the car. I am tired of young and old car critics who put down history as though it is old fashioned. I am not the little bit interested in fashion. I am all about style and if that includes a little or even a lot of tradition, then I am open to it. I did buy a XJ6 series 1 in the seventies and it was a true beautiful luxurious car that left me longing for nothing more. I now own a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 x300 that was designed by Geoff Lawson. This great designer was not allergic to modern or traditional design. I for one am not interested in the modern look alike designs of most modern cars which cannot be recognised or distinguished easily without their badges. Jaguar at one time had a history of making very original looking luxurious cars. Not sleek, slick cars just to compete with other common cars, but to produce cars that were different from the common run of the mill cars and at a price that one would have expected to pay a lot more for. People who bought Jaguars at one time were those who did not want a name but rather a lot of car for their money. They wanted the luxurious interiors and performance that they could not get in the common car and or could not afford the price of a Rolls Royce or Bentley. The term luxury today means an expensive car with gadgets and performance, but to me that only demonstrates that most luxury cars today, are simply just a luxury to own. Luxury to me is luxurious and price alone does not achieve that. Finally all I can say to most car critics is: "You either get it or you don't" Or to put it very simply. "Most people have to follow fashion because they have no real personal style or taste of their own." Or to put it another way: "People want to be individuals but they also want to fit in like everyone else" Well the copycat marketing experts can certainly see you all coming.

I worked for Jaguar in Coventry during the special era when the X100, X308 , X200s were launched. I was involved in their development. I miss them. I agree with EVERYTHING you've said and feel the same way. I own an Aston Martin, a Porsche and others but also own an X308 XJR. I can easily afford a new Jaguar but the idea pretty much disgusts me. I will always own my X308 and make it better by the year!

Although my xjr100 is currently being a pain, I love it. I toy with the idea of an e55 amg or cls55 amg. But man, I can't bring myself to let go of the 100.
