What a great review on this great car. I live in Australia and I have had the standard X300 XJ6 for over four years now and it will be the last jaguar I ever own because the newer ones just do not impress me one bit. This car will last me out because you are right, Ford built this car better than any other Jaguar ever made. Yes that's right, this car has nothing to do with a Mondeo, that was the S type and the X Type which sold for half the price for a new XJ6 like this. My first car was a Jaguar 420, my second car was a Jaguar XJ6 series one, which I bought in the early seventies. It was a great car. I don't like to hear this car compared to a Series 3 because this is a much better looking car design wise. It's design would be more like the series 2 than the series 3. Why ? because the series 2 design was altered by Pininfarina and introduced changes to the car that made it look like a crossbreed. When Geoff Lawson and his team designed this car he simplified the design away from the series 3 and back to the simpler design of the series 2. The X300 design has the harmony, order and balance design components that make it a beautiful car. The E Type has harmony, order and balance and that is why it is also an artistically beautiful looking car. It was an evolved design from the C Type to the D Type to the XKSS to the simplified beautiful shape of the E Type. If there is one thing in my life time of living with Jaguar cars I have learnt, and knew this from the first Jaguar I ever owned. They are not BMW's or Mercedes Benz they are a true gentleman's car. I have to emphasise the word gentle because that is what they are, or at least were. I always used to say, if you want a Mercedes or a BMW buy one of those not a Jaguar because they are poles apart. If you want to be aggressive buy a BMW. I always liked the relaxed luxurious, soft comfortable ride of the Jaguar cars I have owned. The modern Jaguars were designed to compete with the Mercedes and especially the BMW's and are not the original car and design that they once were. So buying one of these old luxurious car is a steal because you are not going to see the likes of this car type of luxury car ever again. Thos day have gone because most motorists today are buying speed, performance and most of all a fashionable label/brands. Gone have the day of the true originality in cars.

....most people do not understand what you are talking about - we do. It is just a joy to climb into one of these, make your self comfortable in the plush but really good seats and let the landscape slide by while listening to some appropriate music. We will keep these until they fall apart and they are - in opposite of what people seem to believe - quite solid constructions with only a handful of typical problems. Older Jaguars uptimes to the XJ8 have this special way of relaxed driving that is unique as it does not come with any wobbly behavior. Great cars - totally under appreciated.
@richardautenzio81174 жыл бұрын
@@tfleiter The saddest thing is that we just can't get cars like this anymore. And yes it is because most people do not understand luxury cars anymore. They only understand gadgets and speed. True luxury (luxuriousness) is no longer recognisable by most. Badges/Brand names and fashion labels is what matters to most. I don't love these classic Jaguars from the 90's because of their badge name. I loved them for what they offer in real traditional classical luxuriousness. The only other car that matches this luxuriousness, is the 1998 Bentley Arnage (Green label). This kind of Jaguar was much better value for money

Some fender rust, electrical illnesses, steering column adjustment fail and dead pixels is not a big deal. Waitin new drive shaft from UK and making some plans with exhaust here. Greetings from Estonia.

Nice work, enjoyed that. Worked at a company in the mid ‘90s and the 2 directors had 6 year old Ford Granada’s, apparently because they didn’t want to seem ostentatious as cuts were being made at the company. Then one day they turned up in new cars. An 850i BMW and a XJR. Both nice cars at the time but I really liked the Jag. An employee usually got asked to drive them to the garage for a service, that didn’t last as one unlucky chap reversed into an ornate lamp post! and from then on there was a mark in the rear bumper of the jag. The BMW is still going and looks in good nick. The Jag had a harder life and was gone after 10 years.
@richardautenzio81174 жыл бұрын
Very interesting story about the BMW and the Jag. I have always believed that Jaguars were not like other cars and should be treated differently as opposed to the likes of BMW's or Merc's etc. I have always seen them as a car for those who like and love the finer things in life. To me they are the choice between a divers watch and a fine dress watch. And I would never consider that a fine dress match to be used as a knock around no more than an X300 would be used for parking in a local shopping centre or showing off because it is the latest thing in cars. The basic outer design of the Xj6 x300 was almost 30 years old in 1996. That's far from a fashion statement. That is a fine classic quality statement and far from a car that looks like so many other cars on the road, that are simply made to please the buyer who wants a car for all seasons. Perhaps that is why I no longer desire the modern made Jaguar cars as they are less distinguished inside and outside as this beautiful fine classic car. I can buy one of those modern fashionable look alikes cars any time but having a good x300 is something very special. Just because something is old and or delicate and thus needs to be cared for a little more, does not mean it is useless. It just means your have to love it more.

I have a 1995 Vanden Plas 4.0 NA which I purchased from a customer. 112,000 miles when I got it, zero rust as it has never been driven in the winter (we have road salt here) To say it is a clean car is an understatement. My alignment guy who dislikes Jag's has been begging me to sell it to him once he got underneath and saw how clean it is. Anyway, I love the car. Even though it is the 4.0 NA, the torque is incredible, the ride is awesome. The fuel economy, well in the heat of summer, 95F+, A/C on, cruise set on 80 MPH running up and down hills, I average 25 MPG on road trips. I have a feeling that if I had an XJR I would likely acquire a few coupons from law enforcement lol

Hmm, that one was a steal for £1500, you won't find many in that price range that aren't as tatty as hell.
