I'd gladly have my tax dollars to put dangerous killers out of their misery and give the families of the victims peace.
@wholeshebang15 жыл бұрын
@Der Aua - What a horrendous thing to say. Did you even watch the video? The sheriff and co-creator of the program stated at 02:12 that all the funds come from the "inmate funds," which are profits made from the commissaries, so none of "your" tax dollars are being used, you misanthrope. Don't you believe that people are capable of making positive changes in their lives? I do, and it's encouraging to see the men's empathy emerge and their commitmemt to the work they're doing to reform these dogs so they can be adopted to loving homes. The men get unconditional love from the dogs, and they feel validated. That brings about change in their lives, knowing they've succeeded at something, and that leads to continued improvement in their outlook and behaviour.
@kingfisher16385 жыл бұрын
@@wholeshebang1 The question is not "are they capable of making positive changes in their lives" it is do they deserve to? In the case of most that answer may be yes but for some including some dangerous killers punitive punishment or death sentences seem more just than "rehabilitation", particularly to the victims.
@pejolin5 жыл бұрын
@@kingfisher1638 there's no dangerous killers and the like im these kind of programs. There's safety measures. So it's absolutely great that inmates get this chance.

My last rescue dog, Starsky, came from a program called Mixed Up Mutts, based out of Indiana. It was a program that allowed prisoners to train rescue dogs. Best dog I ever adopted. Came home knowing basic obedience, had no fear of people regardless of what they looked like, what they wore, tone of voice, etc. Honestly, I can't speak highly enough about programs like this. Teaching dogs and humans new tricks and fostering confidence and love for all involved. 🐾
@ConnerMello28 жыл бұрын
The feels are for reals. Every prison needs to have a program with animals like this. Being around dogs and experiencing unconditional love changes people, and it would do so much good for the people in prison. It helps them grow as people, and it gives these dogs who would either be living on the streets or in a kill facility a home.
@teresahiggs48963 жыл бұрын
Definitely! Every single prison should have a program wirh some kind of animals….cats, dogs, horses…..any kind of animals helps wirh rehabilitation .

Grandma used to say "An idle mind is the devil's playground." I guess she was right. Giving these men this constructive, life-saving work to do for and with these dogs seems to have helped the men nearly as much as the dogs. I can't think of a more worthwhile cause!
@phoenixrising50887 жыл бұрын
This is such a brilliant programme. It's a No-Brainer! It should be introduced into all the prisons - The Dog's get rehabilitated and the inmates learn to be calm, patient and know what unconditional love feels like which must change their out-look on life and become good citizen's when they are re-leased and the Dog's find a forever loving home thank to the heroes who made it possible.
@brooklynlass21962 жыл бұрын
And the prisoners get rehabilitated. I can't imagine the hurt they go through when they have trained, loved, bonded become emotionally attached to the dogs...and then have to give them up knowing they'll never see them again. That breaks my heart.

I think learning to properly deal with an emotional loss like that is probably a part of the growth these men experience. It might not be something all of them need to learn but I've certainly known criminals who needed that emotional skill set along with the responsibility and empathy that they'll learn from this program.

I know it must be heart breaking, but so is loving and letting go, the great thing is that love always changes you, and that is worth it!

Oh yes, I'm sure it's heart wrenching. But at the same time, they know the dog is going to a forever home where they will be loved. So they're really just sending them on their way, along their journey-that they have made happen. Still... Of curse I know they'll be sooo sad! Happy for them-but at the same time, they won't see their dog again. But I guess theynthey'll get a new dog. Who will surely steal his/her heart...

This is a wonderful program! Both for the dogs, the inmates, and the future family that adopts the dog. It enriches the lives of the inmates. They have nothing to do in prison and some don’t have their family visit them. Plus, the dogs foster kindness, patience, and caring for someone else. And these dogs would otherwise be stuck in a cage waiting to be adopted. This should be in every prison!

I honestly think these programs should be implemented in jails across the whole world. So many people in jail aren't really bad people, just people who have suffered and turned to a life of crime because they had nothing else. By teaching these dogs to behave, they are also learning skills, patience, and discipline to gain control of their own lives. At the same time, spending days with creatures that love you unconditionally, who don't judge you, don't care about your past, want nothing from you but food and love, they regain their self-esteem and realize their lives are just as worthy as these dogs'. Also, the pride that comes from that sense of accomplishment when you suceed at something, like getting these pups to do tricks.

Can I like this a hundred times? As an adult, I've rescued ten dogs, all young adults, adults, and seniors. A few were neglected, a few were abused, and my latest dog, a wolfhound mix, was almost impossible to train the first year. But all of my dogs were memorable, deeply loved. I'm not a dog trainer, but a builder and a weekend hiker and canoeist. My dogs are almost always on the job with me. The training session is 24/7. All were trained to stay close by, hke off lead, and be gentle with strangers and unknown dogs. Many of the dogs wind up in shelters because they weren't properly trained, because their owners didn't know how to train them. If you have a dog that is getting into trouble, spend some time with it. Start with the basics, sit and stay, and move up. Work a bit every day, and exercise the dogs every day. Be consistent, never hit, and only raise your voice if the dog is in actual danger. I've read about these jail dog rescue programs before. Seems like they save the trainers, the dogs, the future owners, and the general public who will come into contact with well trained dogs.
