One of my favorite bands of all time. So great to see this live footage from back in the Hollywood Town Hall days when Mark Olson was still there.

I got to see them on the Mockingbird Time tour in 2011. I thought that was the best possible lineup for them, the only time they had both Olson and O'Reagan together. You don't realize how much singing Tim does until you see them live.

How is it possible that such a great band never became HUGE ?
@spaceghost89959 ай бұрын
Very mediocre songwriting. That's why.

There's a lot of those stories out there. I could rattle off a lot of great bands that never made it big!

And they're still great. Their last 3 albums are fantastic. ✌️

No they aren’t. Without Mark Olson their music just doesn’t have the edge to it. Wichita is a classic example of this.

Saw them in a small club in a small town during this time, and they gave it all. 50 people or 50,000, great show. Still a big influence on my playing.

This is how I remember them, saw them so many times in the mid-90s. Still one of the best.

Absolutely no offense to the Great Mark Olson BUT it's been obvious for many years that the INCREDIBLE Gary Louris was and is the driving force of the JAYHAWKS...with the necessary aid of KAREN GROTBERG...MARK PERLMAN AND TIM O' REAGAN! They took off where THE BAND left off in 1976 to continue and make a whole new "category" of music. ..Now known as "AMERICANA" music! I HATE labels but they are sometimes a necessary evil! Bands that followed in the JAYHAWKS footsteps (The Bodeans, Wilco, even the Wallflowers, etc.) probably wouldn't have happened apart from the JAYHAWKS. They're way too underappreciated!! Bob Mancini

Notwithstanding the huge contributions of Gary Louris, The Jayhawks were Mark Olson's band, and Perlman and Grotberg were Olson's friends whom he brought to the group. Also, O'Reagan is certainly talented, but Ken Callahan was a musical force behind the drum kit. It was a huge loss to the group when Callahan left.

Well I guess that we'll have to agree to disagree. Yes.. Mark Olson started the ball rolling but the contributions of GARY as well as KAREN, TIM AND MARK PERLMAN Made the band more interesting and "listenable"! Karen and Mark P. made their vocal harmonies EXCEPTIONAL! Mark P and Tim added a great dimension to the songwriting. Mark Olson's voice is missed...but not nearly as much as I thought it would be. I believe that as soon as Gary Louis walked in the door...THE JAYHAWKS were complete. I personally like the post Olson albums way more than the albums he was on. Maybe it's because I really only knew the songs BLUE and WAITING FOR THE SUN prior to being blown away by SOUND OF LIES! (I'M a huge Karen Fan... her voice and playing is exceptional! GOD BLESS! Bob

These guys are just killing it, while the audience lays there like the stoned a-holes that they are. The Jayhawks deserve a better and bigger audience. Probably some Eurotrash festival. Waiting for DJ or some lame ass , flavor of the month performer. The world is so unfair.
