Agreed, Peter! Great insights. Also the way that Miles would be breathing and giving that intense stare while he prepared for the next phrase, combined with the creative places where he would suddenly start and stop, really kept people on the edge of their seat! this is a quality that has been lost by many young musicians that needs to be studied

Wonderfully informative look at Miles' style. I was lucky enough to see Miles in 1988, with Foley on "lead bass"...it was to put it mildly..INSANELY amazing. I have seen over 200 artists in concert, and no one had the "presence" that Miles had, and when I saw him I knew next to nothing about him or his music, I just "knew" the name: MILES. But I could feel his power before he even played a note...such an imposing figure... It was easily one of the top 5 concerts I have ever seen. There is a live CD called "Around the world" which features the same band I saw. Check it out.

You should listen what you love my friend. There is no problem if you dislike some artists or styles. However, we have to understand the power of what Miles brought to “the table”.
