Thanks Jazz Bums core Team- that was a very enjoyable and civilised conversation. These are much better when everybody adds in without the constant interventions, like what happens in the Friday groups. Shorter and much more precise. To know that you guys are feeling the pinch of excessive price gouging also is a comfort. And like Chris, I believe Jazz on CD is yet to be fully appreciated. Thanks for all your inspirations. Cheers from Oz

Gentleman this was a great conversation. I enjoy the Friday night live streams so my next comment isn’t about anyone who joins you on Fridays as everyone has been helpful on my jazz journey. I loved this video because you all spoke in turn without drowning out one another. It was a real back and forth. I would love to see you dedicate an occasional Friday night live stream with just you three. Those watching could spark the conversation as they always do but I think a quieter conversation like this and getting your points of view out would be really enjoyable. No shade towards anyone who joins regularly or on occasion. I still enjoy those shows. I think I may have seen every single one and it’s a part of my end of the week routine.

This was a very relaxed Jazz Bums but the most amazing stat for me is just how much storage must FELIPE have in his home. He has most of the records people mention and what appears to be hundreds of T shirts.

Good advice from the Jazz Bums regarding taking a more disciplined approach to acquisitions in 2025. I say this after having spent an hour looking for my copy of Reminiscent Suite which Chris recommended. At least (this time) I didn't wind up buying another copy!

A very interesting conversation that has has helped me crystallize my own vinyl expectations for 2025. Quality pressings have become very expensive and I will be leaning more towards CDs (Chris) and more heavily reliant on Roon (Felipe). Finite sq.ft in my place can only comfortably accommodate a finite collection. Wishing you all a great 2025 with infinite good music.
@JazzBums24 күн бұрын
Absolutely. I think it is important to re-evaluate our goals and expectations with anything. In my case, I have a huge CD collection, and that also takes space. I still play them, but they are all digitized and in my Roon server as well, for convenience. With a great DAC and streamer, it is perfectly fine. Add to that, a lot of great music on Bandcamp, even Apple are download only. Buying downloads is a great way to support music. Thanks for watching! F

I agree with Felipe being tired of people complaining about packaging issues. My pet peeve is “unboxing videos” without commenting on how the actual record sounds. I care about the sound the most. I love Pressing Matters and also Jason Roxas as well as Matthew Bellasario’s channel where they listen to the new pressing and provide feedback

Great discussion gentlemen and thank you for all the great content in 2024. You all mentioned cutting back for differing reasons. I started doing that around August this year,combined with some selling too. I can only say that it’s a liberating experience and it makes you far more discerning about what you buy. In that 4 months I’ve been able to listen more deeply to what I have bought. Happy New Year guys 🙏🙏

Hi fellas thanks for all the content over 2024, looking forward to more informative chat over the next year. One release from 24 that I haven't seen mentioned much is Dave Douglas' Gifts with James Brandon Lewis, Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang - had an odd RSD Black Friday release here in the UK - great new music, well worth checking out if you don't know it. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the music

Happy New Year to the jazz bums when it comes. I continue to really enjoy catching up with the live streams on a Saturday here in the UK and have picked up on some excellent new artists and labels e.g. James Brandon Lewis , International Anthem, Soufflé Continu . Loved this wrap up episode very reflective and sympathetic with many of my own views in 2024 I noticed I really cut back on Blue Note reissues this year in favour of more free jazz and contemporary releases and I’ve started buying cd’s again particularly those ECM and Black Saint not available in vinyl. Bandcamp continues to be a brilliant source for contemporary artists and music as well as more unique reissues. Thanks again for really entertaining content Cheers

Thanks for all the great information in 2024. I have learned so much from all of you and your guests. 2025 looks to be a big jump in my collecting. I rarely find the quality or quantity of jazz records in my area that I see on your podcast. I mostly have to buy online. When BlueNote came out with their new Tone Poet Society none of it was in my collection.So I jumped onboard . It was nice to get the 3 new selections already and I'm excited that each month I'll get more. Happy collecting in 2025 and keep up the good work!

Interesting reflective thoughts of the hobby in 2024 and perspectives for 2025, bums. I did the same at my end. Some of my habit changes started already in 2024 and will carry on in 2025. - Discontinue buying re-re-release records of dead Artists’ music in mass and major series from reissue labels like Acoustic Sounds or Blue Note or Craft reissue series - disconnect from the hype created around super deluxe (re-) mastered, pressed and packaged reissues vs.well-made good sounding records for a reasonable price - Focus on working artists‘ original record releases by small original labels instead if they are all dedicated to quality and have a face to the vinyl community - Refrain from buying records online when there is a local brick and mortar buying possibility - unsubscribe newsletters and other information channels which are constantly talking one into buying more and more records - rather expand on engaging in local music on vinyl communities and listening events with friends to discover new music or rediscover - curate my collection away from just having those hyped audiophile limited edition whatever reissues towards having meaningful storytelling people-connected thus truly lasting listening experiences Anyways, wishing you all the best in finding your own ways in and out of the hobby.

@@jeffreysobczynski7113 In looking at Bob's I see that the settings are as follows, 1:15 (24 dB gain) or 1:30 (30 dB gain). The SKY 20 is switchable for 1:10 (20dB) or 1:20 (26dB), The SKY 10 is switchable for 1:5 (14dB) or 1:10 (20dB). The SKY 40 is available as switchable for 1:20 or 1:40 or as a fixed ratio set at 1:40 (32 dB). A cartridge with a 5.5 mv according to the KAB calculator, requires 35 dB gain. So the only one that would work properly would be the SKY 40 correct?

Waldron/Hino Reminiscent Suite is the best jazz record out of the 100 reissues I bought this year. My new year resolution is to stop buying questionable pressings the kind that are warped and off center. That means no more GZ Optimal Turd Man etc.

As for buying new equipment in 2025? Better buy it now before the Trump 20%+ tariffs(Sales Tax) kicks in. As for series in 2024 it's a miss not to mention APs Pablo Releases - every damn one of them is outstanding and very reasonably priced I might add. I'm glad I bought more in 2024 than I should have but....I don't think 2025 will come close to the very high bar 2024 set for new audiophile releases. So yes me personally my 2024 purchases ate into my 2025 budget for good reason. Cheers and Happy New Year!
