One of the BEST interviews EVER! I'm a big fan of both you, Jeff, and Jay Leno. It would be great just to hang out with Jay for the day, even if it's just watching him work on cars in his garage & handing him tools. He's just a great guy! I need to send him or Mavis some recipes I know he'd like, especially my recipe for S.O.S. He'd like it. It's simple. I grew up watching both Carson & him when most kids were watching other things or out running around. I miss seeing him on TV. For a kid growing up in a small TX town, people like him kept me entertained & brought a lot of joy & laughter in my life. Not much chance now that I'd every get the chance to go to LA & see his car collection or see him perform live. But it would be fun.

Oh you are so right! I would love just to have a couple of his cars and bikes. But I could not keep them in the shape he does, nor put them out there for others to see. So he is the guy to own them. I would probably drool all over the floor if I ever got to go through his garage! For me that would be heaven on earth.

Jay is an awesome guy. I grew up across the river from him in Mass. He use to do stand up comedy at our local pubs in Lowell Mass. before he went to the Tonight Show as a regular of Johnny Carson. He has an awesome book out about glowing up and shares stories of the love of his parents. Like the time he was wondering why all his classmates were looking out the window. His mom and dad were covering up his convertible to keep the rain out. Just an awesome wholesome guy. The last of the greats.

Jay was best friends with my best friends older brother Jay and I only met him a few times. But my dad was a janitor at the hi school and he would always catch Jay using the elevator. So when he walked off the elevator my dad would say, Jay hand over the key 🔑. Jay would always hand my dad the key and smile while saying Mr. so and so You know I have another one ☝️ (Some how he got a key 🔑 made over and over ) But the point is even my Dad liked him so he never reported him to the Principal for using the handicap elevator,Oh my dad was also a locksmith and he Never had to make a key for the Andover Hi School elevator !! My Dad liked Jays demeanor and still watches his shows.Jay had a way of making people feel good about them selves even on a long tedious work day. Thanks Jay my dad is still with us and still likes to tell the elevator story.

A splendid podcast. Jay Leno is just like saying 'What you see is what you get'. His outlook on life has served him well. Jay is right though. If you're in any field of entertainment and you distance yourself from the audience and fans then what are you doing in this field to begin with if you know it's part of career. He's very quick witted too. Jay caught Jeff wide open as Jay said and just had to rib Jeff about what Jeff was commenting at one point in the podcast. It's said it takes a thief to catch a thief. In this case it takes a comedian to catch another comedian off guard.

Awesome time spent with Jay! Being a Boston guy myself...had no idea Jay spent some time working at Wilmington Ford in Massachusetts....and to think he doesn't "fix cars" himself...cause most of the cars Wilmington Ford sold back then needed help right after they drove on to Lowell St. LOL No I wasn't a victim...but my brother was. They sold him a 1978 Mercury Zephyr coupe with a 3 speed manual transmission (in 1982)...and he couldn't drive a stick. Now THAT is how to sell!!

As opposed to one of his larger detractors! I have seen Jay interviewed twice where he was asked point blank, why does X hate you so bad. Jay's answer both times was that he (Jay) does not know for sure. But several people became unhappy with him when he was announced as Johnnie's replacement. And Jay added that replacing Johnny was such a big thing to so many, that they had hung all their plans and future in that job. And that is all he would say. His not demanding the big money, plus being so neutral on hot topics had to of been a big part of it. Jay was not abrasive to the older generation, where many of Jay's peers were and didn't care. And it was those older people who's money was supporting the Tonight Show at that time.

I think that the most important skill for a successful comedian is total recall from a deep well of memory that can quickly retrieve a response to any given situation be it part of an old routine or a new response to an old question. It seems incredible that so many of the great comedians and comediennes are so quick with a unbelievably accurate jabs and truly funny responses. Try watching any talk show, especially Graham Norton since the BBC is NOT against foul language or descriptive stories that would NEVER make it on any TV show in North America. This freedom allows these comedians to respond with ANYTHING, not being restricted in case that response is less than suitable for U.S. audiences, even though almost every foul word is part of everyday language at a very young age, so those restrictions are ridiculous. Seriously, almost every comedian can provide a quick funny answer or a long funny story, which is also a Graham Norton specialty - letting the comedians and actors respond openly in whatever manner they choose. Like comedians many actors and actresses are the same - immense memories holding anything from a sonnet from Shakespeare to a song from a musical to a line from a comedy they made sometime in the past. Their memories are amazing but not really surprising when you consider the dialog they must remember on a daily basis. So there - that is my theory on what makes one person a good comedian versus one who is great. They both may write their jokes but after 10 years they must remember ALL of those jokes and have them ready to zing a heckler or to enchant a young lady (or guy) in the audience they would like to meet later...a la Mr. Leno and his wife of 41 years. Jay actually looks to be in wonderful health and seems to be a happy hard working gentleman, doing what HE wants to do. You can't beat that at ANY age. Great interview BTW Jeff.

"I show up in my stupid Pinto but Jay has things powered by steam!" A year later, Jay has started adding OTHER kinds of vehicles to his collection -- A100-ft tall Egyptian-looking robot powered by nuclear reactors appears. An older man stands to a side of the robot's face hanging onto a metal hand hold. "Giant Robo, attack!" says Jay dressed in a suit while speaking into a radio watch around his free hand. Next on Jay's buy list, Mazinger Z!

I came to the Understanding then our Schools 🏫 System are in terrible ☹️ Trouble 👿. I would never entertain the thought of waisting money 💴 on something that is going to insult me.
